- "We stand together and our faith in the Light is absolute."
- ―Elder A'shora
The Khepi were a theocratic species on the planet of Khepi, a group which worshipped the Stars. The Khepi existed in the Khepi system, moving to the Sayma Nebula after their world was predicted to be destroyed. Within a tomb constructed to preserve the species, they remained concealed from the galaxy until their tomb was reached by the Rokana Raiders.
Present since the formation of the Galactic Republic, the Khepi remained independent from Republic Jurisdiction even until the High Republic Era, when they first made contact with the Jedi Order and the High Republic. Later, the Khepi would interpret ten years earlier that their world will be destroyed by a meteorite. In response, the Khepi began the construction of a tomb within an asteroid inside the Sayma Nebula. Constructed with roxodium, the tomb was designed to last for thousands of years to preserve the species. For the protection of the tomb, guardian droids and the artifact of the Architect's Scepter have also been made.
The entire population of the Khepi would then move and hibernate within the tomb, preserving until the the Sayma Nebula collapses into a proton star. During the hibernation of the Khepi, many raiders and pirates attempted to reach the Khepi Tomb in pursuit of a rumored treasure within, but has never located the tomb and make the journey alive. However, the Imperial researcher Dr. Jessik was able to locate the tomb, providing the coordinates to Stinger Tash and the Rokana Raiders. The Rokana Raiders would then be able to locate the tomb and establish presence within the tomb in search of fortune, but would be unsuccessful for missing a part of the Architect's Scepter. After the outlaw Kay Vess assisted the Weequay pirate Hondo Ohnaka to unlock the tomb, the raider would eventually abort the tomb after a catastrophe followed the completion of the Architect's Scepter.
History
- "Ah, back to the system of the Khepi. Once again, we will fly in the shadow of a great civilization."
"What happened to the Khepi?"
"Uh, the planet was smashed by a big rock, something big — What matters is all the shiny loot that they left behind." - ―Hondo Ohnaka and Kay Vess
The people of the Khepi existed since the Galactic Republic has first been established, being outside of the Republic's control on their homeworld of Khepi. The Khepi eventually gained the Republic and the Jedi Order's attention, which the governments have given several invitations to the Khepi in visiting the Republic's capital planet, Coruscant. The Khepi often denied the requests, but would nevertheless have representatives present on the planet. While observing the stars, the Khepi predicted that in ten years an asteroid would crash into and destroy the world of Khepi. Henceforth, the Khepi began the construction of a tomb that would preserve their society.[1]
The Khepi would move into the Sayma Nebula after their original world was destroyed.
The Khepi would move into the ionic Sayma Nebula, where they began creating their tomb out of roxodium. As security, the Khepi created Khepi guardian droid with the same material as the tomb, which altogether would last for thousands of years. During the construction, an artifact known as the Architect's Scepter has also been created for the construction and the activation of the droids. Afterwards, the Khepi across the galaxy would be demanded to return to the tomb. In response, all of the Khepi, including the representatives on Coruscant, would immediately return to the tomb to be preserved. Inside the tomb, the Khepi would plan to hibernate for thousands of years, waiting for the Sayma Nebula to become a proton star and be part of the birth of the star.[1]
Pirates and raiders would eventually acknowledged the presence of the Khepi tomb and a rumored fortune that lies inside the tomb. However, they do not know the location of the tomb, and the people who pursue the treasure has always perished during the hunt. By the Imperial Era, Dr. Jessik, a researcher of the Imperial Archaeological Division, would have been able to locate the tomb. The researcher shared the information to the Rokana Raiders, allowing the raiders to discover and create a base of operation within the tomb. The raiders discovered that the treasure requires a key, which is the Architect's Scepter, that is missing a part owned by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka. With the assistance of the outlaw, Kay Vess, the tomb has been opened by the raiders. However, the tampering has caused a disturbance that resulted in the Raiders to abort from the tomb.[1]
Religion and philosophy
- "Every day, the Sky tells us what we need to know. But it had never been more important than now to listen."
- ―High Priestess O'lona, on her personal journal
The Khepi had a devotion towards the stars. They were able to decipher the astronomy of their skies, and be able to receive information and make precise prediction with it. They also believed that the way to take care of the deceased is to send them towards the stars. With this belief, the Khepi constructed their tombs near the Sayma Nebula, so that they can be near the Light once a new star has been born.[1]
