- "Ah, My oasis in the Dune Sea."
"Looks like a dump."
"Because it is a dump. All the best pirate hideouts are." - ―Hondo Ohnaka to Kay Vess
The Ohnaka Hideout, or Hondo's hideout was an isolated settlement on the planet Tatooine that eventually fell into ruin and was subsequently taken over by the Ohnaka Gang. The pirate gang later abandoned the settlement when it gained the attention of the Galactic Empire. In 3 ABY, Hondo Ohnaka, the leader of the former gang, returned to the hideout with the scoundrel Kay Vess to recover a piece of an artifact to use to enter the tomb of the Khepi people.
Description
- "Captian! I have just remembered — when you get to the bridge, you mush walk two steps forward, three left, two back, triple spin and—"
"There's no bridge anymore."
"Oh my. I guess someone forgot the triple spin." - ―Hondo Ohnaka to Kay Vess
The hideout consisted of a series of buildings built into rock formations in the Dune Sea region of the desert planet Tatooine. The entrance to the hideout was a building that led through a section of rock to an inner courtyard area. Building were spread around the edge of the opening with a bridge that connected two sides of it.[1]
History
The ruined interior of the Ohnaka Hideout in 3 ABY
- "Hey, I get it. If I was trapped here I'd be mad too."
- ―Kay Vess to R5-P8
The hideout was originally a settlement that fell into ruin.[1] At least twenty cycles before 3 ABY,[2] the Ohnaka Gang, a group of pirates took over the ruined settlement and used it as a base of operations. During its operation as a pirate base, Ohnaka stored a number of items there including part of the first draft of his memoirs and the hilt of the Architect's Specter, though he did not know it's significance at the time. When the settlement gained the attention of the Galactic Empire the gang abandoned it. However before leaving they group setup a series of traps consisting of tripwires, pressure plates and an elaborate trap for the court yard bridge. Ohnaka also tasked an astromech droid, R5-P8 with watching over the hideout.[1]
In 3 ABY[2] while searching for a way to open tomb of the Khepi in the Khepi system, Ohnaka discovered that the hilt he had previous stored at the hideout was part of the Architect's Specter which could be used to open the tomb. He then returned to the hideout with Kay Vess who had previously saved him from the Rokana Raiders. When the pair reached the entrance to the hideout they discovered that the door was jammed so Vess climbed around the rock face to make her way inside. Once in side, Vess discovered that small group of bandits were in the process of raiding the base and had tripped a trap that blocked the entranace. After dealing with the bandits and making it furthing inside Vess discovered that the bridge had been destroyed and was forced to further climb around the base. After making it base more traps hear the binary of a droid before being trapped in a room with a spike ceiling slowing coming down on her. Using her VM-19 heavy blaster pistol Vess was able to destroy the part of the trap and escapde. Vess then met R5 in a small courtyard and had ND-5 translate for her through their comlink as she talked with R5. After convinced him to hand over the hilt, R5 learned that Vess was working with Ohnaka and proceeded to angerly call a pack of Massiff to attack Vess. Vess however managed to defeat the pack and asked ND-5 to contact a droidsmith friend named Gedeek Obaz to come retrieve and repair R5.[1]
When Vess returned to the entrance of the hideout she discovered a number of Rokana Raiders had landed and captured Hondo. However Hondo told the group that they had walked into his trap, hoping Vess would start attacking the gang. The subsequential firefight resulted in the death of members of the Rokana Raiders and the survival of Ohnaka and Vess. The pair was then being picked up by ND-5 in the Trailblazer, Vess's EML-850 light freighter, and traveled to an active settlement of Tatooine named Wayfar.[1]
