- "Not like I want Almakian apples for dinner again, but…"
- ―Volo Bolus finds his Almakian apples half-eaten
Almakian apples were a type of red and green apple from Almak,[1] Mid Rim[3] homeworld of the Leffingite species. They were used to make Almakian apple pie, a dish served in the eatery known as Dex's Diner on the planet Coruscant.[2] Around 10 BBY,[4] the Twi'lek mechanic Sornah Bocc and the Prae'tus podracer Volo Bolus had Almakian apples among their food supplies at Bocc's garage on the planet Malastare and Bolus at one point ate some for dinner.[1]
After they lost a race on the Hydian-Hutta Podracing Circuit, Bolus returned to the garage to find the sacks of Almakian apples from their supply half-eaten by local vermin on the ground outside the garage. The rotten apples had been left alone, but the rest were more slobber than apple, which Bolus found disgusting despite the fact they had not wanted to eat the apples for another meal anyway.[1]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Almakian apples were first mentioned in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Alien Archive, which was written by Nicole Clubb and Katrina Pallant. The book only mentioned the apples as part of the name of the dish Almakian apple pie and did not establish them as a separate entity.[2] The apples then appeared independent of the pie in the Industrial Light & Magic virtual reality game Star Wars: Beyond Victory - A Mixed Reality Playset.[1] The apples originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where they were mentioned in "Dining at Dex's," a 2009 StarWars.com Hyperspace exclusive article written by Gregory Walker.[5]
