The Zyzek system was located in the Unknown Regions[1] in grid square F-9 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[2] The star system contained the planet Zyzek, which served as a trade center for several nations and species located to the Chiss Ascendancy's east and southeast. The Zyzek System Defense organization protected the system.[1]
In 18 BBY,[3] several merchant vessels and warships orbited Zyzek, including the Kilji war cruiser Whetstone and the Chiss heavy cruiser Springhawk. The cruisers engaged in a confrontation that was ended by Zyzek System Defense, resulting in the war cruiser and the heavy cruiser's departure from Zyzek. The Springhawk's commander, the Chiss Senior Captain Thrawn, later speculated that[1] the Watith Captain Fsir, who had ambushed the Springhawk before[4] the confrontation with the Whetstone, had been hired to do so—unbeknownst to him, by the Grysk agent known as "Jixtus"—at Zyzek.[1]

The Zyzek system first appeared in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, the final volume in Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy.[1]
