Zoph was a planet[1] located in the Zoph system within the Wazta sector of[3] the Outer Rim Territories[1] and Western Reaches.[2] It was situated in grid square J-18 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[3] The Zophis crystal, a type of kyber crystal, could be found at Zoph.[1]
Long before the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Jedi Padawans traveled to Zoph in search of those crystals to complete the construction of their lightsabers. The crystals produced a devastating but unstable blade due to the crystal's resonance. As a result, the lightsabers were able to carve through durasteel, but were vulnerable to power fluctuations in the weapon's core. Later visits to Zoph for its crystals began to wane as the planet Ilum and its kyber crystals grew in prominence for the Jedi Order. During the time of the Clone Wars, Zoph was controlled by the Confederacy, an enemy of the Jedi.[1]
