Zonama Sekot was a celestial body located in the Unknown Regions[3] in grid square F-13 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[2]
Behind the scenes
Zonama Sekot was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the StarWars.com article "Where in the Galaxy Are the Worlds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens?," written by Mark Newbold and published on January 29, 2016.[3] It originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it was first mentioned in the reference book The Essential Chronology by Kevin J. Anderson and Daniel Wallace,[4] which was published on April 4, 2000.[5] It then had its first full appearance in[6] the May 2, 2000[7] novel Rogue Planet by Greg Bear and was also visually depicted on the book's cover.[6]
Zonama Sekot as depicted in the Star Wars Legends continuity
In the Legends continuity, Zonama Sekot was a sentient, mobile planet that,[6] in 29 ABY,[8] traveled to the Unknown Regions,[9] aiming for the Klasse Ephemora system[10] in the region's Chiss Space.[11] Later, at the beginning of the Sith–Imperial War of 127 ABY–130 ABY[12] introduced in Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars: Legacy comic-book series,[13] Zonama Sekot traveled[12] deeper into the Unknown Regions,[14] with a map of the Star Wars galaxy published in 2006 on Dark Horse Comics' official website placing the planet far from the Klasse Ephemora system by 130 ABY[15] and the main galactic map in the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas more specifically placing Zonama Sekot's position by 137 ABY in grid square F-13.[11] In addition, the 2009 sourcebook Legacy Era Campaign Guide, which was published for use with Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game and described the state of the galaxy around 137 ABY, provided a specific rotation and orbital period for Zonama Sekot.[12]
The map in "The First Order" erroneously labeling Zonama Sekot's position as "(137 ABY)" ("(137 DBY)" in French)
"The First Order," a canon booklet of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series[2] published on April 20, 2021,[16] reused[2] the main map from The Essential Atlas[11] to present a map of the canon galaxy[2]—in the process carrying over the label "(137 ABY)" (in French: "(137 DBY)") for Zonama Sekot's position[2][11] that constituted a continuity error for Star Wars canon storytelling at that point in time, which only encompassed galactic history up until 35 ABY.[17] This error was repeated in[18] the July 20, 2021[16] booklet "Scarif and Other Planets in the Outer Rim"[18] and the English edition of[1] the 2022 installment "Exegol, the Unknown Regions and Wild Space,"[19] with the note only being removed in the latter booklet's French edition.[1] After the Star Wars Galaxy Map and its accompanying "Star Systems of the Galaxy" were both published on StarWars.com[20] on June 24, 2025, the author Jason Fry[21] noted that Zonama Sekot had been left out of both works due to not possessing "fixed coordinates."[22]
