"Despite some exceptions, little is known about the Xi'Dec (like many other insectoid species)."
―"Species From A to Z"[2]

The Xi'Dec were an insectoid sentient species[1] from Stic.[2] Ubbla Mollbro, a female opera singer with engorged egg sacs, was a member of this species.[1]

Xi'Dec in the galaxy

During the New Republic Era, Captain Carson Teva sent out the survival compendium "Species From A to Z," which included an entry on the Xi'Dec species.[2] Around 9 ABY,[3] Bubbles ,a female Xi'Dec, was a guest at the Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa on the planet Lanupa.[4] The opera singer Ubbla Mollbro spent time in the city Canto Bight on the planet Cantonica in search for a potential partner.[2]

Behind the scenes

In Star Wars Legends, the Xi'Dec were first described in Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races, a supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Troy Denning and published by West End Games in 1989.[5] The species was made canon when it appeared in the sequel trilogy film Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, released on December 15, 2017.[6]

In Legends, the Xi'Dec had at least 180 different sexes and reproduced in a variety of different ways.[5] It is currently unknown if this is also true for canon Xi'Dec or if they all share Ubbla's biology and reproduce through eggs.[1]

  3. Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian" of The Mandalorian Season One to 9 ABY. In addition, SWInsider "A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 228 also dates "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" to nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 9 ABY per Timelines. "Part Seven: Dreams and Madness" takes place after the conflict on Mandalore, which is the main event depicted in "Chapter 23: The Spies" and "Chapter 24: The Return," the final two episodes of The Mandalorian Season Three. Therefore, Seasons One through Three of Star Wars: The Mandalorian must all be set in 9 ABY as well. StarWars.com SWCA 2022: 20 Highlights from Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase on StarWars.com (backup link) states that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the same timeframe as Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Star Wars: Ahsoka—the latter of which can also be dated to 9 ABY following the reasoning here. As such, Skeleton Crew must take place around 9 ABY as well.
