  1. OK, here we are. With our previous two bureaucrats gone, we've suddenly had two spots to fill. So, over the past several weeks, there has been a lot of in-depth discussion about who should be our next two bureaucrats. I have spoken with every member of the administration on multiple occasions about this, and there have also been several group discussions. Additionally, I have consulted with several other trusted members of the community to get their thoughts. As such, the following two admins represent the overall administration's best choices for the role, which have been backed up by many of the regular users I have spoken to. As such, I would like to bring Fred and ecks to the community for consideration to become bureaucrats.
Before I get to the users themselves, I wanted to briefly touch on the role of a bureaucrat. Now, a bureaucrat doesn't have that much real power. We can grant user rights and hide specific edits from page histories, but that's about it. Our votes are not worth more, and our opinions only count more in situations where community consensus is unclear (and I wouldn't be surprised if such a situation has never actually happened before). Being a bureaucrat is not like being a "head administrator," and it is certainly not candy. In my opinion, a bureaucrat is simply an admin who, above all else, has an unyielding sense of dedication to this site and an incredibly strong knowledge of its workings and procedures. They should also be skilled in editing and interacting with the community, have a lot of experience as an admin, be easily contactable and involved in site matters, and all around be a figurehead of the community. I believe both Fred and ecks perfectly encapsulate these traits. That being said, let's get onto the users the administration would like to bring to the community for consideration.

Although Fred hasn't been an admin for that long, I think in the short time he's had the keys, he's truly shone. Fred is among the most level-headed and welcoming members of this community, working tirelessly to ensure new users are given the best possible start to their Wook career, exemplified in his terrific work with the Welcome, newcomers page. Additionally, Fred is a leading member of all three review boards and is also responsible for our amazing Instagram page, which is undeniably the best out of our three SM platforms. Although not serving as an admin for long, Fred has been an integral part of the community since 2008, so certainly knows his way around and has an utmost dedication to the site. He also has a daily presence on IRC and Discord and is always involved in community matters. But above all, I think Fred's main strength is his interactions with other users. Fred is always incredibly positive and supportive of users new and old, truly inspiring them to make Wookieepedia a better place, and is a joy to work alongside. He is completely loyal to the site, always willing to learn, and truly wants to make Wookieepedia a better place. I think he would be a great asset to the site as a bureaucrat.
Ultimately, I believe that Fred, ecks, and I would work very well as a bureaucratic team. Ecks representing the "old guard," keeping in mind our past; myself as the new, often pushing new ideas; and Fred somewhere in the middle so we can find a middle ground. I believe that between us, we would represent the level heads, good intentions, political skills, and openness to progress that would serve Wookieepedia the best in these changing times. 4. I've known Fred for a long time now, and he's someone I consider a friend, offsite as well. He's always been approachable, level headed, and absolutely trustworthy. Over the past few weeks I've thought a lot about the future of this site, and how best to approach it. I believe Fred and ecks (with Tommy) represent some of the best in our community, and I look forward to working with both of them. Here's to you both, and May the Force be with you. 5. My interactions with both Fred and ecks have been nothing short of excellent, and there is nothing more I can say that haven't already been discussed above. Thank you for all your work in the past, and I look forward to the future. OOM 224 ༼༽talk༼༽ 20:57, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

  9. I'm not sure I need to add much here. Tommy puts it eloquently. Fred is a superb Wookieepedian, administrator, and friend. My interactions with him have always been productive and professional and I have no doubt in my mind that Fred will make an excellent bureaucrat. 1358 (Talk) 21:21, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  10. Fred is a natural leader on the site and will make a terrific bureaucrat. JediMasterMacaroniAdmiral Ackbar RH(Talk) 21:25, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  11. Fred is by far one of our friendliest and most welcoming users, and his work with social media, guides, and general community participation is inspiring to say the least. He also has a capacity to forgive, listen, and grow that I've seen in few others on or off Wookieepedia. He's someone I'm proud to call a friend and I know that the future of this site is bright with him as one of its guiding hands. Ayrehead02 (talk) 21:28, 20 April 2021 (UTC)

  16. In addition to being our most welcoming administrator and his work with our SM accounts, Fred has created one of our most important projects, Project Stardust, and has collaborated with several WookieeProjects. I consider him a friend and someone that I could always go when I have a question. As Ayre mentioned, he's also someone with the ability to listen, understand, and grow which are important qualities for a BC. Congrats Fred, I look forward to work alongside you.--DarthRuiz30 (talk) 22:22, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  17. Immediately following the events of last month, and Tommy stating that he was going to be conducting discussions to bring forth two new Bureaucrats to fill the gaps, Ecks and Fred were the individuals who instantaneously came to my mind. I've said this before, but when I was a newcomer here, I always confused the fact that Fred was not an administrator in that time. And since that moment, Fred has always shown why he is among the best suited for the responsibility of a Bureaucrat. He is always present, helpful, resourceful, respectful, and committed to genuinely improving our community and its efforts. His work in Welcome, newcomers, Project Stardust, and Project Galaxy's Edge has been extremely valuable to this community, not to mention his dedication to the management of our Instagram account, which has surpassed 100,000 followers. Additionally, he is consistently devoted to learning and to teaching, and I am confident in his abilities to work with the community to further improve it. Fred has my support. --Vitus InfinitusTalk 22:31, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  18. Throughout my time as an editor, I've gotten to know Fred to be one of the most genuine and helpful people on the site. His ability to lead two WookieeProjects—Stardust and Galaxy's Edge—is without a doubt worthy of recognition. He also helped me out with getting my own WookieeProject started. Nice work, Fred! 20. Fred has done a good job in managing the Discord page. I think he will make a good bureaucrat. Andykatib 23:03, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  21. Strong support. Fred has always been both incredibly friendly and supportive in all of my interactions with him, and as others have already stated, he is undoubtedly one of the most welcoming people here. Though I don't have an account there myself, from what I've seen he does a great job running Wookieepedia's Instagram account. Fred is obviously quite committed to both the community and the wiki itself, and for that he absolutely has my vote. DwartiiDelver (talk) 23:33, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
  22. Like many others, Fred and Ecks were who I immediately thought of as natural bureaucrats (particulary echoing what Tommy said about a balance between the old guard, the new crop of users, and the middle). Fred is just genuinely a great guy, very friendly, and respected and liked by the community. I can't think of anyone better to be trusted with the tools of bureaucratship and the responsibility of being an informal leader of Wookieepedia. Fan26 (Talk) 02:34, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
  23. Thank you for answering my questions, Fred! I was wavering over voting or abstaining; you were one of the people I initially suggested, but then I started to question myself on it. Acknowledging the work to be done is very important to me, and I'm happy to keep working with you as you continue growing. Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 02:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
  24. Absolutely! Fred is exactly the first person I think of when I read the qualifications of a Bureaucrat. - JMAS Jolly Trooper Hey, it's me! 02:55, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
  25. Per many above, Fred is a very natural and well respected leader here and he's very engaging with old and new members of the community. Not only that but he's been able to repeatedly unify people through projects like Stardust and Galaxy's Edge, and I imagine his idea of a more social mofference will do so too if it comes to fruition. Although I profoundly disagreed with his stance during the recent CT controversy, I have nothing but respect for his openness to learn and grow after it. I hope to see great things from you Fred :) Braha'tok enthusiast (Hello there) 07:11, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
  26. Nothing new to say here, everyone else has said it perfectly. Fred is definitely an outstanding admin and leader on the wiki, being involved in numerous community projects. 33. Thanks Fred for taking the time to answer my question. Given how important (particularly in recent context) this kind of vote is, I really felt it was an unique opportunity for you to express and commit your thoughts. With that done, I'm comforted in my initial opinion: I think you're up to this position, and I'm glad you're with us. -- NanoLuukeCloning facility 08:49, 22 April 2021 (UTC)
  34. Back when we were comrades-in-arms in writing Galactic Battlegrounds articles, Fred was always up for helping me out with source requests, reviewing articles etc. and in my current round of returning it's clear that behaviour has remained. Very glad to see him willing to step up to take this position, especially when he's one of the main people encouraging community engagement on the site these days. I trust him to hold this position with responsibility and respect. If one thing is clear, it's that he's committed to always moving forward, both as a leader and a community, and to right the wrongs of the past. I look forward to the future. Optional candidate Q&A
  1. What do you see as the difference between an admin and a bureaucrat? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • There is actually not much of a difference, to be honest, though when it comes to external relations and internal politics, a Bureaucrat should shoulder the most weight in terms of properly representing the interests of the wiki and community. A BC is also supposed to act as a deciding voice in case the administration is having difficulty reaching an agreement on a path forward.
  2. What will you use your new status for if your nomination succeeds? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • With the increased influence I would be handed if I'm voted in, I'd love to find ways to better represent the community to other parties and on other platforms. Other than that, my duties as a BC would really require that I simply continue to grow as a person, allowing me to be an even better source of positivity and growth for our community. The job itself is really the same, just with extra weight.
  3. In your long, long history on Wookieepedia, what are some of your regrets/mistakes as a user and as an admin? How might you handle one of them differently now? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • I've taken part in divisive cultures in the past, and I haven't always been the welcoming, warm person I am today. I'm sure I've even driven some people away, even if my actions were only a small percentage of the reason they left. That really pains me to think about, and I hope to never fall into those traps again.
  4. In the recent removal of two bureaucrats, what are your thoughts and feelings on what took place and the ultimate outcome? (Or to put it another way, under what circumstances do you feel it is justified to remove power outside of the established procedure?) Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • This is a very difficult one, and I have a lot of complex feelings on this matter. I am friends with people on both sides of the situation, and I won't lie that it hurt that nobody told me what was going on, though I totally understand. I get that there are times when someone at the top of the food chain may need to be removed, and the established procedures might fail those who need them to work the most. I personally feel that's not a fault of the procedures, but more a fault of people in leadership like myself, who should have done more to earn the trust of users. I cannot speak to this specific situation, as I was not presented with any evidence (and though that hurts, I again understand why people were hesitant). Basically, what I'm saying is that no system made by fallible human beings will ever be perfect, but I think the system we have for removing bad actors is a good one. It just requires its leaders to earn more trust. I hope I can do that going forward.
  5. It's no secret that your faith is important to you! How do you reconcile conflicts between your faith and situations that may arise regarding Wookieepedia? And on the flip side, how has it been a strength in your work here? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • My faith will always be my top priority. It has always guided me and never failed me. If there were ever a situation where my faith would require I do something against the will of the community, I would honestly have to abstain. I've always believed that conflict of interest is going to be a part of any career, and when it arises, it's best to remove yourself from the situation. This is why we have three BCs, and if there's ever a situation where I cannot act due to my convictions, I trust the other BCs to make the call. That being said, my faith has also taught me to be a peacemaker, and though I've not always been the best at it, I'm assuming by the comments people have left in their votes that others see it differently. That brings me great joy, and I hope I can continue to act as a peacemaker whenever peace is possible.
  6. Gonna ask another hard question because it's going to be on some people's minds: when the naming policy CT took place, you were one of the three administrators who were opposed, and the other two opposing admins have been permanently removed. What have you learned since that vote? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • I love that you've not been afraid to ask the hard questions, and if I can't answer them, I don't deserve this position. Since the CT, I've reached out to friends, coworkers, members of this community, and others to gain perspectives from many different sides. My LGBT friends and coworkers have given me some great perspective on their experiences, and I've learned how to properly balance the technical and statistical with the human and emotional. All are important aspects of community. I still have a lot of resources to dig through (some of which you yourself have provided), but as my personal life hopefully becomes less hectic over the coming weeks, I plan to continue learning. Basically, what I learned is that I can never be finished learning. I appreciate all those who have helped me learn, regardless of the angle from which they approached.
  7. What Wook Work do you most enjoy? Immi Thrax RainbowRebellion2 (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
    • This one's easy. I love leading projects and helping new users find their way. I had mentors when I was a new user, and since my Wook career didn't start off very smoothly, I'm sure I would have gotten nowhere without them. I love getting to be that helping hand. It's my firm belief that our biggest obstacle here on the wiki is manpower, and a main reason for that is our intimidating policies and expectations. I love helping people navigate that so they can become trusted and happy members of the community. And then I love getting them all together to tackle a daunting task. MasterFredCommerce Guild(talk) 02:42, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
  8. Around a month ago, we faced a crisis like no other, and the conclusion has left us all hurting in different ways. Some time have passed, surely not enough yet, and I apologize for bringing this again to the table, but as we are voting for new bureaucrats, I feel that it should be an opportunity for the nominated to express on the record their "cooled" opinions and conclusions regarding that event and/or our general history/culture and/or our relationship with our own community and the general SW community at large, since it reflect on your ethos as administrators and most importantly possible future bureaucrats. Please, take as long as you need to respond, this is an open question, and you can take it wherever you like. Thanks. --NanoLuukeCloning facility 10:00, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
    • Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my thoughts! I'll do this chronologically. This wiki definitely has had a tumultuous history with lots of division and political in-fighting. People are very passionate about this project we work on, and that has caused conversation to become overly heated and for the atmosphere to become occasionally toxic. For those who are newer here, this was much, much worse a decade ago. As we became more and more popular as a resource, and as our userbase became more and more active online with social media becoming a main form of communication in society, the inner workings and politics of the wiki have become more visible, and it has caused harm to the image of the wiki within the fan community. While our main goal is definitely to provide a comprehensive and professionally-written encyclopedia for our readers, we can't ignore our responsibility to continue to make Star Wars fun for everyone. Our secondary goal should be to attract more fans to the franchise and allow those who are already fans to have more fun in that universe. We absolutely should take what we do seriously, because if we don't, the quality will suffer. But going forward, I feel like we have room to improve on balancing seriousness on quality with the realization that Star Wars should be something to enjoy. This would even make more readers feel more comfortable making the switch to editor, which is beneficial to our mission. As for recent events, while I don't agree with how everything was handled by myself, fellow admins, and Fandom, and I have some major concerns about the latter going forward, I'm committed to rebuilding bridges and working together. Great progress has already been made amongst the admin team, and I'm cautiously excited to see where our developing relationship with Fandom goes.
