Aliens

Since you have done a lot of work on species articles, I wondered if you could have a look at this. I'd like to put it on the species page which currently is just a list. I'd particularly be interested in comments on the Species articles and Navigating the encyclopedia sections. --Eyrezer 07:17, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the feedback. I decided to be bold and move the article there as it is now. Thanks for the addition on Obo Rin. --Eyrezer 02:58, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
    • No problem. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:08, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
      • I'm thinking of changing the navigation section to be similar in appearance to the Main page, something like this although I can't get the coding quite right. That is one of the main attractions to me, emphasing the galleries etc that are available.
      • Re the OOU bit. I have a question as to the premise of the Wookieepedia. Are we like, say, The Essential Chronology that purports to be IU, in which case the description of the entries would be compatible with an IU perspective? Or are we not, in which case it should be treated completely OOU?
      • As to the sections themselves, I wrote a few notes on Volemlock's talk page that I'll also put here. I think we should move towards greater standardization in our sectioning. With that in mind I had a look at the format used by the GGs. They use "Biology and appearance" which I think works well as it removes the risk of confusion with the appearances/sources. I though I might go through and standardize at least that heading on the Wookiee. GG12 has "History and culture" as a label, putting them together. I like to have them apart where possible. Many of the other GG labels such as temperament, technology level, personality notes etc are what we treat as subsections. I like the "[Species] in the galaxy" section, but it can be difficult to separate out which is why I put the proviso on the page. Maybe this would be better put elsewhere, but it would be good to be prominent somewhere so that ppl see it before majorly expanding an article.
      • --Eyrezer 02:58, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
  • I made some changes to the navigation section here. --Eyrezer 05:06, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Quick Question

Hey, just curious, why did you remove the archives from the VIP page? Chack Jadson 22:20, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

  • It fit in with our decisions in Forum:Deny recognition, and some of the arguments Darth Culator alluded to in Forum:User template (where some of the userpages deleted were only linked to on the VIP page.) The old reports still exist in the history, of course: I just didn't see the need to keep listing and archiving them on the main VIP page. Granted, I only talked it over with two other admins on the talk page, so if anyone objects, my changes can be reverted. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Serious Charge against Darth Culator

He's trying to use Wookiepedia to keep his views on SD.net and Mike Wong unchanged. Earlier today he has blocked the Mike Wong and Stardestroyer.net articles from editing became criticism against them was put up. This should be a serious offense and abuse of power, Silly Dan. Can you please look into this?Unsigned comment by SuperSaiyaMan (talk • contribs)

  • I'm afraid I don't have time this week to look into this in detail: I will say that we try to present a neutral point of view, especially in our real-world articles. That means neither one-sided overzealous criticism nor gushing praise should appear in the Mike Wong and SD.net articles. If you have a concern about these articles, you may want to discuss it in the Senate Hall or on the article talk pages before immediately calling for administrative assistance. —Silly Dan (talk) 01:58, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
    • That's the thing though. Darth Culator is an Administrator, abusing his power to keep the bias in the articles. When facts that StarDestroyer.net's aggressiveness was put down, he changed the article and then locked it, basically insulting people who have debated Wong, only to be heckled, teased, and insulted. He's abusing his power. When you have time, can you please look into it more, Silly Dan?Unsigned comment by SuperSaiyaMan (talk • contribs)
      • No, I think both articles are currently protected in a neutral state. —Silly Dan (talk) 02:07, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
        • In the Discussion Area, he has gotten even more insulting. And it isn't in a neutral state, its in a state Dart Culator wants it in that prevents any criticism (Had no time to look it over last night, now that I had...how can this guy be an administrator?) Calling people idiots because they disagree with SD.net's calcs or have been flamed off the board is...kind of uncalled for. Unsigned comment by SuperSaiyaMan (talk • contribs)
  • Look, SuperSaiyaMan, the article is fairly neutral in point of view. And you are coming of a bit fanatical here, almost as if you have a personal grudge. You may want to reevaluate how to spend your time here. That being said, stop being a dick, Darth. You're an Admin; act better than this. -- SFH 15:59, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
    • Per SFH. I don't think that the established neutrality of the article should be disrupted, which would happen if that content was allowed to stay in there. We strive to be neutral, especially in real life topics such as SD.net that people have varying opinions on, even something as moronic as Supershadow. On the other hand, Culator, there's no need to feed the trolls. Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 16:02, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Talk page editing

From what you said on Forum:Jack Nebulax, it seems that banned users can no longer edit talk pages. Is this permanent? If so, how will users protest a block that they truly believe is not warranted? Chack Jadson 23:56, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

  • They can try emailing the admin, contacting them on their talk page on another wikia (like the central Wikia wiki), or join the IRC channel. I don't know if stopping them from editing talk pages is permanent, though I don't see the need to bring that feature back considering all of the other options available. —Silly Dan (talk) 00:09, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Apparently Elusion Illusion mentions that the Gotal are hurt when around use of the Force. --Eyrezer 02:24, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

  • There are so many semi-contradictory descriptions for Gotals feeling the Force: I may have to collate all the sources I have on the talk page. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:58, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
    • I would have added it myself if I'd found it myself, but Jaymach mentioned it on IRC so I thought it best just to mention it here. He also said the opening paragraph (after the intro) makes the article sound like it's about the planet as there's no mention of the Gotal's in it. --Eyrezer 04:11, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
  • The integration looks good. I've given my support to the article now. --Eyrezer 01:45, 13 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi

Hello if I were running for Sysop would you nominate me? Unsigned comment by Moneymoney (talk • contribs)

  • No: a user must have been an active contributor for over six months to be eligible, and must generally have demonstrated high-level understanding of how Wookieepedia operates by making major contributions to articles, useful contributions to discussions, etc., etc. I'm afraid you're too inexperienced as of yet. Bear in mind, however, that being an administrator is not necessary to enjoy contributing to Wookieepedia, to make your voice heard in discussions, etc. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

GA obj Verpine

  • Hey Silly Dan, I was wondering your obj on the GA page for Verpine has been taken care of? It appears that all obj's have been handled, except this one— role of hive-mothers in Verpine society. I'm trying to get some of those older nom's off the page, so the it's not so cluttered anymore – so if it has been taken care of in the article, would you mind striking your obj? Thanks, Cheers. Greyman(Paratus) 13:54, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Sure, it can be removed. As it's more a "this article is not quite complete" than a "this article is inaccurate" problem, I'd want it left up if it were an FA objection, but one unresolved problem is probably enough to let it be counted as "good" when the rest of the article is fully sourced. —Silly Dan (talk) 14:34, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

Inqship

Hey Silly Dan. The Inq's, at our most recent meeting, put forth the suggestion of making you an Inquisitor. We all voted, and it was decided that, if you accepted the offer, then you could be made an Inq. So if you're interested in helping out with that process, we would be happy to have you aboard. Cheers, Greyman(Paratus) 00:05, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Having checked the transcript, I have to point out three things:
  1. I was never against the Inq concept, exactly: I just had problems with the way it was initially set up (but you'll note I voted for most of the initial nominees who put their names forward.) Having said that, I have no serious problems with how it's been working so far.
  2. I'm not really that active on the FA page: my activity on that page lately is due to trying to get the Gotal article featured.
  3. I don't really have time to be an active Inq: I might have time for it later, though. In the meantime, I'll vote on FA and GA nominations from time to time as a regular user. Thanks for the nomination, though. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Silly Dan, you might want to note that Gotal has one remaining objection to becoming a Featured Article- all other benchmarks have been met. "Rather than a list of notable Gotal, can that be changed into paragraph form and placed within the Gotals in the Galaxy section" Just thought I'd let you know, and a pleasure, as always. Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 20:02, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Truth is, I don't like that section at all, so I wouldn't mind removing it. Unfortunately, some of the characters listed aren't really significant enough to devote a sentence to in the text, so I'd only be able to move some of the information into other sections. Unless someone does it for me, I'll change it later this week and let the Inq know so we can see what they think about the article. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:41, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Darth Revan

Sorry for the confusion after, reading the talk page on revan it appeard that there was generel agreement as Jasca Ducato re-added it after it was removed. Also if you read Path of Destruction Bane does describe Revan as his virtual Master, and as Ive said the purpose of a holocron's gatekeeper is to act as a teacher when no living person is available. as for the eye color I thought there was some policy on the latest apperence being the most official, if not sorry.KickAssJedi 07:22, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

  • There was not any agreement on either of those points. A holocron is a recording, and it doesn't matter whether the term "virtual master" is thrown around. The field is for actual masters. The first criteria for an actual master is that they are alive at roughly the same time as their apprentice - not thousands of years before hand. Darth Bane's eyes are white in the majority of sources, and newer sources never automatically outrank later ones. QuentinGeorge 07:27, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Yes ok ive said sorry already, but it has more place being there than not, a holocrons GATEKEEPER not the holocron itself is desighned to act as a master and bane himself considers revan his master.KickAssJedi 07:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

Ubese

Hello Dan, I wanted to ask you something. On the Ubese history page you said that the sources you were using for their articles mentioned "Jedi officials". I wanted to know what source was that, since I was using the Ultimate Alien Anthology as a source and they don't make mentions to any Jedi being involved in the Battle of Uba IV. I also have Alien Anthology which I haven't checked yet since I expected both sources to have the same info, but I will check it tonight and let you know tomorrow what those books say (Since they are the only ones I have), If you have another source that put Jedi on that debacle do let me know so we can figure out what to put on the article. Thanks. Carlitos Moff 00:01, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

  • It must have been Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, since both Alien Encounters and the Shadows of the Empire Sourcebook only mention Republic forces, not the Jedi specifically. I'll change it back, since Jedi officials are a subset of Republic officials anyway....—Silly Dan (talk) 03:04, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
  • Allrighty, I see. Remember that the Ubese of KOTOR II are not the same ones that appear on the Battle of Uba IV which acctually happened during the New Sith Wars. That one is the incident to which Alien Encounters and other sources refer to. Since the confusion is clear now, I am gonna go change any remaining reference to the Jedi on their articles, thanks. Carlitos Moff 17:07, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
    • The New Essential Chronology, however, establishes that the Republic and the Jedi were basically the same thing as of the Battle of Uba IV, so the Jedi should still be mentioned in that article (even if that can't be the incident which set the KOTOR II Ubese against the Jedi, since it happened centuries later.) —Silly Dan (talk) 21:18, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
      • You are right. Now... how to add that into the article and make it look good? Any ideas? Carlitos Moff 22:57, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
