Re:Images

Why not? --Commander Chris 16:46, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

  • If you're asking why {{CopyrightedFreeUse}} is the wrong template to use on screenshots, it's because that template says that the copyright holder has given permission to anyone to use it for any purpose. The correct one to use for screenshots is {{Film-screenshot}}, since we don't have specific permission to use those pictures, but believe we can use them on Wookieepedia according to the "fair use" copyright provisions. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:44, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

HI SILLY!!!

My page is underconstruction and im bacc from retirement. sir forgive me for what i did and give me back my old user page!!!!i was originally named mas1@ a year ago when i was banned from wookiepedia.i know what ur thinking, "i should delete this new account he made", but im not going to vandalize any longer. i thiught long and hard and finally got some advice "what would jesus do" and im hear begging you to please let me have my spot back on the most in depth and accurate star wars information site availible! i love star wars to death and knowing of my past record i have been put on probation for the vandalism by Judge Lucas. now i just made this new account i want to bring it to its past glory so please help me to perfect my user page please! --Steezin4ever 19:16, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Three things:
  1. Your original username, User:Mas1@, hasn't been blocked. You were warned several times that you risked being blocked if you continued doing certain things, but your original account is still usable. (And, according to our policies, trying to use two accounts at a time may lead to one or both of them being blocked, so you may want to go back to the old one.) I don't know who this "Judge Lucas" person you're talking about is: if it's an admin on another wiki, we have nothing to do with it.
  2. Your original userpage won't be restored: Darth Culator judged it to violate our policies (specifically the user page policy and Wookieepedia:What Wookieepedia is not). Under Wookieepedia:Administrative autonomy, he's responsible for deciding if it can be restored or not. I don't see any grounds for restoring it myself, and I strongly suspect he won't either. To be brutally honest, Wookieepedia is not about the user pages, and people who mostly want to work on their user pages are usually not well received here.
  3. Don't call me "Silly." The reason why should be obvious. It's "Silly Dan", "Dan", or "SD" on this wiki. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:28, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Sorry

I am sorry that wasn't what I meant to do. I was trying to create a new page, but then the name Rydarian came up and it brought me to that page and I assumed it was what I was trying to do. What I WAS trying to do was to add a species that George Lucas had expressed interest in making, but he decided against it, I think they were called the Allarians or something like that, so sorry for editing the Rydarian page, and I wish to ask permission to make the Allarian page. If that is ok with you Unsigned comment by Meganoob (talk • contribs)

  • You should only do so if you have an official source of some sort. If you don't even remember the exact name of the species in question, you probably shouldn't write about it. —Silly Dan (talk) 21:39, 29 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi Dan, I can't help but notice on every page I click, without fail, I get a banner ad and never a box ad on the SW Wiki. Can you explain this, because I'd like to do this over at Redwall. I cannot get a box ad at SW no matter what page I click, so I know something is going on. --LordTBT Talk! 02:47, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

  • Most articles on our wiki have an infobox template like {{Galactic Empire character infobox}} and/or the eras template {{Top}}. I'm not an expert on the subject, but it seems that something in those templates interferes with Wikia's ad code and forces the ads to be banner ads instead. There may be more information in our forum archives, or on the central Wikia wiki. Sorry I can't be more specific. —Silly Dan (talk) 11:50, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

doggy terms

I may have overlooked it, but in the ANH novel when Luke drives into Toschi Station isnt there a dog mentioned?

the terms "hound" and "pup/puppy" frequently occur in Marvel Comics. I added the Marvel issues to the appearances as (Mentioned only). The term "hound" is first used in Issue 11, the terms pup/puppy are in issues 12, 36, 37. Note that on Monastery Vader frequently addresses Luke, insultingly, as "Puppy", apparently due to his youth and inexperience in contrast to Vader's mastery.JustinGann 22:11, 28 October 2008 (UTC)

I think in Marvel "Hounds" is usually applied to human(oid)s who are hunting people on behalf of someone else, like calling pirates Crimson Jack's hounds, thus invoking both the hunting aspect of dogs and the loyal follower aspect.JustinGann 03:53, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Well that's lame.

But thanks for letting me know.

By the way, are we not supposed to add ((1st)) tags to articles with sole appearances? Because Graestan says it's unnecessary, which I agree with, but I don't see what's wrong if they are there. It just saves work in my opinion if they do get added in something else later. But if there is a policy about it, i'll stop doing it. -- Cato Neimoidia 01:14, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

  • The result from Forum:CT Archive/Era tags is only lame if we assume the era tags serve an IU purpose. If they are only there as an OOU guide to where the character appears in literature, it makes perfect sense. As for the {{1st}} tags, I don't think they're necessary for single-appearance characters who don't have anything listed under "Sources", but I don't feel too strongly about it, and I'm not sure that there's a policy. Cheers, —Silly Dan (talk) 01:30, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Crimson Jack

I will try to tell you the quotes as I run across them reviewing the comics.

Star Wars 11:

Crimson Jack orders his men to torture Han, but Han manages to acquire one of the pirates' rifles and point it at Jack.

Han Solo: "Call off the hounds, Jack! You've got the men and firepower to take us out--but it'll be rough gloating without a head!"

Make of it what you will.JustinGann 03:18, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Impossible to tell if it refers to dogs from just that phrase, I'm afraid. Obviously that's the metaphor the writers were going for, but I don't think it's enough for the IU section of an article. —Silly Dan (talk) 03:32, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

so what would you suggest? BTS? Or redirect hound to List of phrases and slang? Or both?JustinGann 03:49, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

  • Leave it as a BTS note in the dog article, something like "terms like 'hound', 'cur' and 'puppy' are also used in-universe, possibly referring to dogs." (Of course, you would only use that exact phrasing if someone actually uses the term "cur", but I wouldn't be surprised if it's also in the EU somewhere with a context which isn't crystal-clear.) —Silly Dan (talk) 04:27, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Archives...

How do you create archives and pages for your contributions? Do you create another user and name that user "Silly Dan Archive 1" or something? Thanks!
Kgrimes2 02:29, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

  • No, that's not quite it. Have you noticed that talk page archives have a "/" in their pagename? That character makes the archive page a "subpage" of the original talk page. To make a user talk archive page in your case, you'd want to create a page called User talk:Kgrimes2/Archive1, and put your old talk page messages there. You can do this either by creating the page from scratch, or by moving your existing user talk page to the "/Archive1" title, then editing the redirect you created with the move so it can serve as your new talk page (see Help:Editing for details.) User subpages work the same way: create a page called "User:Kgrimes2/Contributions" or whatever you want to call it. Cheers, —Silly Dan (talk) 03:55, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Re: Near-Human

I'd say that's too much extrapolation. Since no source definitively says what Near-Human means, we can't assume that Zisians and Coynites are Near-Human. However, the information about them being (canonically?) able to reproduce with Humans probably does belong on that page, maybe as a BtS subsection ("Reproductive compatability with Humans") or something. Gonk (Gonk!) 17:01, 15 February 2009 (UTC)

  • The Essential Guide to Alien Species comes close to a definition for the term, as well as for humanoid, w/this passage: "...if a species is known to be 'humanoid', this is not because its members are human, but because they bear specific traits that are similar to humans... ...humans have spawned several related subspecies referred to as near humans. Near humans are individuals who are nearly genetically identical to humans, but whose inherent makeup has changed in varying degrees, due to environmental influences, evolution, or other factors. Humans and near humans can interbreed with very few exceptions." (Another interesting factoid in that book, though, is that Zeltrons and Chiss are never called NH, but are explicitly said to be human-descended.) Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, Second Edition describes NHs as the result of the "remarkably prolific and adaptable" human species, and its spread through the galaxy. The only way I can interpret the evidence in conjunction with any kind of sensible biology is by assuming anything that can interbreed with humans is a human-descended near-human and vice-versa (give or take possible writer's mistakes and very good humanoid mimics.) But perhaps you're right, and there should be no interpretation of the evidence, just reportage. —Silly Dan (talk) 01:55, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Hello. I would like to humbly ask you to look over the "List of clone troopers" Trash Compactor entry again, specifically in reference to my argument to keep the article. True Sith

Yeah, I can see how that would help to distinguish between the various schisms that erupted between the Old Sith Empire and the so-called "True Sith" -- I hadn't caught that particular implementation on the main article page, so it's all cool. In fact, the closer the True Sith can be tied to Naga Sadow's empire, the better, I think. I'm simply glad that this dangling loose end in the continuity is finally getting addressed -- and with any luck, the ongoing SW:TOS web-comics will help hammer a bunch of this stuff out very, very soon. --The Bandsaw Vigilante 03:32, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

  • There is no way to stop this at the software level. Admins may ask users to get rid of any misleading material on their user page (such as awards they didn't earn), but this is fairly rare. To change the subject slightly, if you leave a message on someone's talk page, and they don't answer right away, don't leave a duplicate message. Just be patient. —Silly Dan (talk) 12:15, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

  • OK, that's a helpful idea, but there are three points that need fixing. Firstly, the Appearance list is supposed to be in the order in which the stories happened: I moved The Force Unleashed to its proper position. Second, The Force Unleashed refers to several things: you should have specified the novel, the video game, the comics, or whichever source used the phrase. Finally, you listed Return of the Jedi twice. Aside from that, it seems you have the right idea. —Silly Dan (talk) 22:32, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

why am i losing or gaining points?

on my watch list it will tell me what I am watching and then it will give me a (+ 350) or (-2). what does this mean and do I earn anything for gaining these "points"?

--Darth Vochkalie 22:38, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

  • Those aren't points. Those are the number of bytes the article's size has increased or decreased by. For example, if you make an edit which changes "Darth Vadr" to "Darth Vader", you'd see a "+1" for that article on your watchlist. —Silly Dan (talk) 23:10, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
