The Essential Guide to Alien Species was a book written by a ghost writer based on data collected by the Shi'ido anthropologist Mammon Hoole. The work was published during the rule of the New Republic by a publisher on the planet Coruscant.[1]

Hoole's book is the in-universe equivalent to the real-world book The Essential Guide to Alien Species, which was written by Ann Margaret Lewis and published by Del Rey in 2001.[1]
