C'baoth FA objection

In response to your objection to Joruus C'baoth, I put that info ahead of the stuff from DFR because I was illustrating some of his feats in battle, and the Ukio thing is the main show of his skills in such combat. RE: Kre'fey at Balmorra

Hold on, I'll remove that, it was the wrong battle, it's supposed to be Kuat, and the info comes from the Bothan who spoke to Han and Leia at the end of Inferno, who mentioned that Kre'fey was with the fleet that came from Kuat to aid at Kashyyyk.Tank 17:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Categories

Hey, Harrar. I saw your question on Kuralyov's talk page and thought I'd give you a hand. In my opinion, the best way to learn wikicode, both for categories and other things, is through sheer copy-pasting. Take a look at this article. Click "edit," then scroll to the bottom of the article. There you'll see an example of correct categorization. Simply copy that format, and apply it wherever. --Imperialles 18:36, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

  • To add on to that...basically, there's no need for redundancy. Placing (for example) Tsavong Lah in the Yuuzhan Vong senior officers category will already place him in the Yuuzhan Vong and Yuuzhan Vong officers category by default. Kuralyov 22:30, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Flow-walking

Hey Harrar. If you have time, could have a look at the Aing-Tii article, specifically the part which discusses Flow-walking. My knowledge of Dark Nest and LOTF is limited, so there may be some info missing there. If you have time, could you add whatever you can to that part with references? It would be greatly appreciated. Yuuzhan Vong War

Greetings, Harrar. I see that you intend to greatly (greatly!) expand the Yuuzhan Vong War article, and for that you have my admiration. Some months ago I did that same thing on the Spanish Wookiepedia (you can check it out, likely you don't speak spanish but you can stare at the pretty pictures), and it was tiring indeed. My plans were way less ambitious than yours, but hey, the article took a life on its own and, in little over than a month, I did about 65 pages on MS Word... less than what you have now, probably, but still a lot. Eventually I reduced the article to just 45 pages, because there were many details that just didn't add anything to the flow of the narrative. I see that, as you said, you were incorporating everything, and that is great, as the war is really an important Star Wars event and its current article is rather... mh, disappointing. Nevertheless, your rewrite is going to be really huge, and will certainly be the largest page on Wookieepedia, and I, as a NJO fan, really, really appreciate your effort. Ha, to think the SP article was really good, only to have this worldship of an instant FA... I anxiously await for the day it's done.--Jedabak 18:44, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

  • Indeed I saw your workbench, and in fact I shamelessly copied the introduction and some assorted tiny bits of information I didn't have/forgot to add. For my part I have 16 NJO books (I once had the Force Heretic trilogy, but not anymore), plus Recovery and Ylesia, and the NJO sourcebook. I see that you omitted Recovery, perhaps it was a mistake, but if it wasn't and you don't have it, I'll gladly help you with that part. The NJO Sourcebook is full of interesting details, so I could make something of a list of useful information so it could be incorporated in the main text. Also I support your idea of writing the article as a real war, as opposed to a series of Solo's/Skywalker's adventures in the context of a war. Nevertheless it is somewhat difficult, as (for example) the Agents of Chaos duology is Han Solo and little else, and the Battle of Fondor appears only as a situation in which the heroes were involved, and we know nothing of the battle apart from their roles. Aditionally, the Mid Rim campaign (Druckenwell, Rodia, Kubindi, Kalarba, etc.), and many other battles, are sparsely detailed (I wanted to read about the Hutt Space campaign...). I see also that you plan on expanding/rewriting all the battles. I recently translated the Second Battle of Coruscant from the Spanish article, which was larger, I could do the same with the Myrkr mission. Unfortunately, I doubt I would be of any help :(. I've only read a tiny bit of JAT from the library a few years ago, and I'm only at the very beginning of NJO. However, I would probably be interested in working on Kyp with you if I'd read more of his appearances, so perhaps I could reconsider in late summer or so when I've caught up a bit. Gherant question

Hey, Harrar. I saw you edited Gherant, so I was hoping you might know where this sentence comes from. His CCG card does not state this by any means. I'm wondering if there's another CCG card that's maybe not in his source list? "At the time of the Battle of Hoth, Gherant was a deck officer with the rank of commander, and his duties included controlling access to the Executor's computer core, a position for which he had been personally selected by the command ship's captain, Firmus Piett." Czulkang gets three brief mentions in the NEC:

  • Pg 218: "But Warmaster Tsavong Lah, on conquered Coruscant, had already fixed his gaze on Borleais. He entrusted the counterattack to his father, Czulkang Lah, who had once held the title of warmaster and now spent his days as a tactics instructor."
  • Later in the page: "Czulkang Lah's attack on Borleais involved thousands of starfighters and group assault crawlers."
  • Pg 129: "[Tasvong] Lah...then turned his attention to Borleais. His father, Czulkang Lah, organized another onslaught to recapture the world, this time using so much firepower that the NR cold not hope to win. At first the plan worked...the SSD Lusankya rammed Czulkang Lah's worldship, destroying both vessels."

I'm fairly sure this is nothing new, but since I've not read Enemy Lines yet I can't be sure.

As for Anor, I'd certainly like to work on him with you; he'd be perfect for a co-project, I think. That said, I'm still not finished NJO, so it might be a month or two before I can start. Love the title, mate. :-) Just a suggestion, though: for the Yuuzhan Vong War section, you may want to attempt a further subdividing of the two major sections, particularly if you can't get more images for them. This will also enable you to put in a few more quotes, which also help to break up the huge mass of words. Interesting to see you writing a non-Yuuzhan Vong character. :-P Are you working from Tales of the Empire, or do you have the Adventure Journal itself? If you don't, you might like to know there's a little blurb for Xarran in it with some info on his early life in the AJ, which hasn't been included with the republishings. Usually, when I'm citing blurbs like that, I use a different ref note to the shory story one, with the number of the AJ included, as it's not technically part of the story (and is usually written by a different author).

Yes, we do need to discuss Anor soon. A start date of around the 7th of August would be suit me best, but I'm flexible. Nom Anor

Hey Harrar! Is the 7th of August still a good start date for Nom Anor for you? I'm flexible, though that would suit me best. As I've said above, I'll be going away around the 14th; I will still have access to my computer -- just no internet -- so I'll be able to continue working on Nom then, if need be, and add it to the Wook on the 22nd or so. :-D

Are there any novels you'd particularly like to cover yourself? I figured it would be best if we divided it into novels and each chose the ones we'd prefer to do. I don't have Dark Rendezvous, so that's the only one I won't be able to do (it also may we worth noting that I haven't actually read TFP or TUF yet ;-) - but I'm racing through Heretic and I should have them read by Monday, I think. :-D ). The one novel I'd particularly like to do is Balance Point, for some reason, but I'm completely flexible. Also, I'll try to con some of the WP:NEGTC people into reading it when it's on FAN, since I anticipate it'll be quite long. ;-)

I can do the comics, sure. I'll root out my Crimson Empire and give it a readthrough tonight. :) I'm happy for you to do SbS, TFP, and TUF. I'd quite like to do Vector Prime, Traitor, and Force Heretic I & III, though I'm easy on anything else. If there's any things you'd rather not do 'cause you've worked from them a lot before or anything, I can cover them. I suppose I can do A Practical Man, too. For the P&T and T&A, I figured we could each add whatever is relevant from the books were working from, and then we can both go over it at the end to ensure everything meshes and that we didn't miss anything. "Equipment" probably isn't necessary, but we could have a paragraph in the T&A about his stuff, perhaps. I'd be happy enough to do the BtS, but I'm easy. I don't mind about the intro, either; maybe we should just do that last? Oh yeah, also, would it be okay if you covered an "early life" section? You've done a few for Vong so you're probably a better candidate for it than me.
I should be logged into IRC for most of the day, but I might be marked as "|awayish" for some of the time. If you type my name in there, though, my chat program will ping me so hopefully I'll catch you. :-D
Bel Iblis has been fun to write so far, but The Force Unleashed is certainly going to complicate things (which means I likely won't have it fully finished for ages). Oh well. Question

Seeing as you are our resident Vong expert, I was wondering if you could help me. In Vector Prime, Yomin Carr uses some beetles that absorb the atmosphere and replace it with toxic gases (I think). I'm surprised and it would be a lie to say I'm not disappointed, but I can sympathise with you and won't begrudge you in the slightest for your decision. I understand how you feel and why you've made your decision, and I wish you best of luck in all walks of life. I'll probably move the Harrar project to a subpage of my own; I'm not sure how much I'll work on it in the next little while, but I think the project deserves to be finished by someone at some point. Wookieepedia is like that—it's great fun most of the time but it can become a burden of sorts and it shouldn't get in the way of a person's life. I do hope you'll return in some capacity at some point (if the poor quality of new works is one of the factors, then perhaps Mindor or another book will help matters in some regard), and I'd very much love to finish Anor with you and see the fruits of your other planned projects at point if you regained interest in the site at some point—but don't feel pressured to do anything at all. I'd urge you to ensure you keep all the work you haven't quite completed on the wiki, either on-site or on your harddrive or wherever, and to allow your WotM nomination to continue, because I think you deserve it for all the work you've done, but ultimately its your call.   • You're welcome for keeping it alive. It just bugs me when there's unfinished work, so I had WP:LE contribute to it along with me. However, you were still the driving force behind it even when you had left :P, so you deserve most of the credit for the close-to finished product. I almost thought you were going to be back for good, and there's no need to apologize for making monster contributions to an article. :) Sucks by the way that you don't have any Star Wars stuff on you now. Re:Copyedit request for Alema Rar

OK, I got about two-thirds of the way through the article tonight (through "The Duel on Roqoo Depot" section). I may or may not get anything done tomorrow (actually today now since it's past midnight) since I have a bowling league tomorrow night and it's my birthday (22! yay!), plus I'm expecting some new Star Wars RPG sourcebooks that I ordered off of Amazon to arrive tomorrow (birthday present for myself), so I should have it done by Friday night at the latest.

I have noticed that the most common error, by far, involves the comma. A few things to remember for future reference:

  1. When using a connecting word, such as "and" or "but", to join two thoughts together in one sentence, a comma is used before the connecting word only if both parts of the sentence (before and after the connector) can stand alone as complete sentences. For example:
    • "She beheaded him with her lightsaber, and then she immediately regretted it."
    • "She beheaded him with her lightsaber and immediately regretted it."
  2. When listing several items separated by commas, a comma should be used before the second-to-last item (before the "and") See why:
    • "Jim, Nancy and Diana are going to see a movie." This appears to tell Jim that the other two are going to the movies.
    • "Jim, Nancy, and Diana are going to see a movie." This clearly says that all three are going to the movies.
  3. Also, when dealing with lists, if one or more of the items in the list contains a comma, then semicolons should separate each item in the list instead of commas:
    • "Jim, Nancy, Dave, Nancy's father, and Diana are going to the movies." This makes it appear that five people are going to the movies.
    • "Jim; Nancy; Dave, Nancy's father; and Diana are going to the movies." This clearly indicates that 4 people are going to the movies and that Dave is Nancy's father.

These are errors that many people make. It's basic elementary school stuff, but the game show Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? shows why so many people have forgotten it. I'm not trying to put you down or anything, just pointing out the most common errors so you know what you're doing wrong and can do it right on your next article, which would save you (me?) some work on the final copyedit. ;) Master JonathanJedi Council Chambers 05:56, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Punctuation corrections, which were the vast majority of the errors as noted above, may be difficult to see in the diff, however, you should have no problem seeing spelling corrections and other similar changes. Next to punctuation, the most common error was probably "Jedi order" instead of the correct "Jedi Order", so keep that in mind in the future. :)

I did count 22 redlinks, so you'll need to kill at least 19 of those to make FA. Any other questions regarding what needs to be done to make FA should probably be directed to an Inquistor. I've watchlisted the article and will try to check any new additions for possible copyediting. I am also going to make a point of checking out the NJO and LotF books from my local library, as a lot of that stuff sounds interesting. :) Good luck in advance on the FA nom. I had another look, and it doesn't seem to be there at all. Her entry's just titled "Alema Rar," and there's no mention of it in either her or her sister's entries, unfortunately. I suspect it's fanon that someone tried to get away with by sourcing it to Who's Who.

  • Certainly. The Fact File tells us that Lando first stole from Nandreeson "shortly before" becoming Baron Administrator on Cloud City. It also says that it was "almost 20 years" later that Nandreeson waited to get his revenge. Lady Luck says that Lando won the Baron Administrator's job in 1 ABY, so we're looking at a window of between 3 BBY and 1 ABY, as TNR is set in 17 ABY. Awesome! Lots of useful info and lots of useful pointers, thanks. While I search and read stuff, I have a couple of questions and/or comments:
  1. You said I'd watch out regarding the Prelude section, why is that? is it too long, too short, too biased, too boring, too irrelevant?
  2. The Shelly Shapiro comment is from Star Wars: New Jedi Order Round-Robin Interview, though she might have said something like that somewhere else. Lots of useful info there.
  3. The fallout books are briefly referenced in the Aftermath and Legacy sections, along with brief info about Raynar, the Joiners, Lomi Plo and Welk, Alema and Gorog, Jacen's fall to the dark side, Wedge and Uran Lavint's comments (and Jacen's introspection exercise afterwards) from Legacy of the Force: Exile, Jacen and Tahiri's flow-walking back to the mission, and the fact that the past can't be changed. I tried to mention everything relevant to the mission's consequences, but at the same time keep things brief and to the point. I'm thinking that the Traitor parts are perhaps too brief.
