Mara Jade

Hi Grunny I noticed the Mara Jade Skywalker aricle neads to be brought up to standerds to matain it's featured article status. It is one of my favorite articles and I want to help. Can you please give me a list of exacly whats wrong with it so I can fix it. Thanks! Galen Merik20pxTalk page 16:06, December 31, 2009 (UTC)

Thank you

In case three of these just weren't enough for you, I'm giving you a fourth. Couldn't think of a better way to thank you for all the AC maintenance work you've done since joining our ranks. Since your admission to the AC last March 22, you have voluntarily archived 112 of 527 total archived noms (assuming my math is right) for the year 2009, far more than anyone else. This is unglamorous grunt work, but it doesn't have to be thankless. So, on behalf of myself and the entire AC, thank you for taking on such a valued leadership role. The Star Wars Custom Miniature Database

Excuse me,

Exactly why did you delete the page titled "The Star Wars Custom Miniature Database?"

Hi. I deleted that page for the reason described in the summary "Unverified for over 7 days." It was tagged with {{Notability}} meaning it needed to have verification of notability otherwise it would be deleted in one weeks time. It was past the one week mark so it was deleted. AWB

Grunny, any chance you can run my Kota subpage through an AWB check with an eye towards the linking? Image requests

Hey Grunny, can you please upload a few images for me? These are for "Bantha" Rawk's article.

  • The image of Rawk and K'Kruhk from issue 26.
  • The image of Rawk and the armored Azlyn Rae in issue 35.
  • The image of Rawk from the Legacy Era Campaign Guide.

After I'm done adding these images, I would greatly appreciate it if you could do a pre-nom review for the article, so that nothing is missing. Thanks for your help, Grunny.--Jedi Kasra (comlink) 17:33, February 10, 2010 (UTC)

Mission to Mustafar

Me and JangFett have come to the conclusion that the Second Mission to Mustafar article should be under "Mission to Mustafar", as that is the correct canonical name. I think First Mission to Mustafar can either remain as it is, or be renamed Skirmish on Mustafar or Rescue on Mustafar. DjMack 20:26, February 15, 2010 (UTC)

Korriban zombie

Hey Gruns :p I was wondering if you could check The Essential Atlas to see what it says about the zombies. Also, there is a very remote possibility that they may be mentioned in Shadows of Mindor in relation to Dathka Graush. If you could check that too, I would appreciate it. Thanks so much. Interferring

Dear Grunny: I was working on what was going on with Strike-class medium cruiser Ironhand, upon realising I made a few mistakes I was attempting to correct them. However, you then redirected the article while I was making the appropriate alterations, causing me to lose the data I had inputted on the article. I'm currently trying to find it right now. (Admiral jolyon 23:45, February 22, 2010 (UTC))

  • Unable to recover lost data. The data I was looking had to be inputted again manually. Please be careful next time. (Admiral jolyon 23:56, February 22, 2010 (UTC))
    • You're the one who marked the article for deletion, and so I took appropriate action. If you had been more careful and edited the correct article in the first place, there wouldn't be an issue. Grunny (Talk) 00:02, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
      • Grunny, what you just said, in my opinion, was extremely RUDE! What I wanted to know is what to do to prevent this sort of thing in the future during my contributions to Wookieepedia, I can understand that I probably shouldn't have put the Template "Delete" too early while I was in the process of making my corrections but saying that "I" should be more careful, to me, does feel hyprocritical, if you'll parden me saying so. Look, I can learn from my own mistakes in the process of contributions, but what I don't want is to be talked to in a manner that makes me think that you believe that I don't know anything about how Wookieepedia works.(Admiral jolyon 23:03, February 23, 2010 (UTC))
        • Well I'm sorry you thought it was rude, but I was just stating the facts. You created an article, which you yourself had previously created. You then marked it for deletion, without taking a copy of your work. I took appropriate action and moved the page to the right title and then you accused me of interfering. Now what you should have done instead is simply ask if I or another administrator could retrieve that information you wanted for you, which we can do, but instead you proceeded to tell me to be careful in future, hence my response. Grunny (Talk) 23:12, February 23, 2010 (UTC)
          • I understand and I also wish to apologise. I didn't know that you could've retreived it. I also didn't mean to accuse you, I was tired while I was doing the article. (Admiral jolyon 10:16, February 24, 2010 (UTC))
            • No problem. I understand how annoying and frustrating it can be to lose your work. Grunny (Talk) 12:33, February 24, 2010 (UTC)

Question

Hey man I was wondering if you could help me with two things. First, I'm going to change that page Solo Slide to a disambiguation page because the Solo Slide mentioned in Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor is completely different from the one mentioned in Abyss. So my thing is how do I move the history from the current exsisting page to the new one. Second do you know, or know someone who knows, how edit the little info boxes found at the bottom of certain articles? For example the ones that can be found at the bottom of event in the Second Galactic Civil War and dates. Thanks Apotheoses Jedi 16:14, 28 February 2010 (UTC-6)

Vessa Brentioch/articl recreation

Shouldn't this article have been kept? It passes the notability test, it has a CUSWE page. I remember someone once said that CUSWE isn't a source, so I didn't know whether or not to place it under External links and remove the Verify template, fearing I would get in trouble (I feared it might be tacked onto my pre-existing warnings, even though they were in my early days, nearly two years ago, when I was less clear on the site's guidelines). On top of that, I do not fully understand what's meant by "Feel free to create a new version, if it's appropriate for the wiki" as seen on deleted articles. If you could clear this up for me, that would be really awesome. --Darth Shohet 22:54, March 10, 2010 (UTC)

TCSWE entries

Hello there Grunny, I'm Bonbondoodle. I noticed that you often look up entries in varies reference material for other users, so I was wondering if you could help me find a few entries for projects I'm doing right now. I'm trying to post something on a talk page and it keeps getting blocked saying "linking to external image hosting sites is blocked" but there is no link anywhere in my edit to an external site. Upload form

Hi there,

I'm an administrator at a couple of Wikia wikis, and I was curious as to how Wookieepedia got its customized Upload form to work. At a wiki I maintain as a sandbox, I attempted to implement it the same way this Wiki has, via MediaWiki:Upload.js imported from MediaWiki:Common.js, but I couldn't get it to work. is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks for your time, ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)

It doesn't even change the form at all. The form itself can be viewed at w:c:neukolumbia:Special:Upload. I transferred both MediaWiki:Upload.js and MediaWiki:Functions.js over, as well as the code from MediaWiki:Common.js that I figured may be relevant. I browsed through the scripts individually to see if there were any specific references to Wookieepedia that could void the script if they were not altered appropriately, but couldn't find any save for one which was in a description comment. The main reason I'm wondering about all this is because my home wiki is really a mess as far as appropriately-licensed images go, and I'm trying to clean it up (unaided, of course, by all the "improvements" to Wikia that allow people to upload untagged images in brand new places). Thanks again. ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)

Templates

Hey Grunny, I had two template questions for you. The first is in regards to the new law infobox—not that it makes a whole lot of difference, but I always thought the side-by-side "support" and "opposition" fields were much more aesthetically pleasing. I like the new box, but if those could be placed side-by-side once more, it would be perfect. I would do this myself but I'm completely incapable of attempting to script a functioning template. On a different but related note, I was wondering if you could help me make a template for treaties and other government documents that are outside of voted-upon laws. This could include constitutions, declarations, etc. I attempted to work on a version of such a template here by editing the original law infobox temp. If you could help me make it a functioning template, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much! Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 09:27, April 17, 2010 (UTC)

  • Thanks for your help, Grunny. :) CC7567 (talk) 17:22, April 17, 2010 (UTC)
    • Thanks for adjusting the law infobox, it looks much better now. As for the government documents infobox, do you think it would be best to have one template specifically for treaties and another for constitutions and the like? Because I feel like treaties should have two separate "party" fields as I've done on the subpage, but regular documents would only have a single field for the specific government that established it. Aside from that, these boxes should also have "Date proposed," "Conflict," a "Terms," and "Key Individuals" as fields. Thanks for your help, and let me know what you think abou the "parties" field. Template

Hey Grunny, I gave the treaty template another go on my subpage, and I think its the best I'll be able to do. I did it by editing the Duel infobox, and all the fields are there in the basic order that they should be (if I edited the thing correctly). Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 22:11, May 2, 2010 (UTC)

  • So I finally made the template, but there's one problem. As you can see here, for some reason the "terms" field pushes the text to the right half of the infobox. Do you have any idea how to correct this?Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 22:56, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Treaty infobox

I wonder if it wouldn't be easier to make 4 separate "Terms" sections so that the terms for each side can be more neatly arranged. What do you think? - JMAS 20px Hey, it's me! 23:26, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

  • Oops, meant to put this on Trayus's talk page. - JMAS 20px Hey, it's me! 23:28, May 8, 2010 (UTC)
    • Thanks for the fix, and as far as this goes, I think it would be best to keep it in one field, as the terms would be across the board, and they don't always fit into a single faction. Like bringing a war to an end would apply to all factions. Darth Trayus(Trayus Academy) 23:29, May 8, 2010 (UTC)

Administrator harassment/impartiality

Hey there Grunny,

I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at Toprawa and Ralltiir's deletion of Forum:NB: Personal Attacks, claiming I was "whining" when I filed a complaint about personal attacks he made against me. Perhaps there's just an exceeding lack of oversight here, but administrators deleting complaints made about their conduct seems like an astounding conflict of interest to me.

Cheers, ~ Michael von Preußen (voicemail)

I don't see the issue, to be honest. You arrived on the wiki, and while you started off asking for clarification, you moved to calling our rules stupid and accusing Toprawa of incivility when you yourself were being uncivil. Coming from someone who has not spent a lot of time editing on this wiki, and so become familiar with how things have worked here successfully for many years, it's likely to get people's backs up and make them less likely to reply with good humor. Toprawa was reacting to your less than good intentioned messages, and I don't see any outright personal attack in any of his messages. I do, however, see a rather blatant one against our editors in your most recent post on his talk page. Grunny (talk) 23:23, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

Search Bar

Hey, I was wondering if any progress was made regarding the autocomplete in Monobook's search bar. SinisterSamurai 22:20, May 11, 2010 (UTC)

I just took my first look at it. Since the auto-complete is working on other wikis in monobook, I'm assuming it's our problem. As such, it is most likely some conflicting code, I'll try to find the cause of it. I've started cleaning up our monobook code, and see how that goes. Grunny (talk) 23:23, May 11, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into it. Let me know if you fix it. SinisterSamurai 18:20, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

Zam Wesell: Star Edit Wars

  • Another edit war, eh?

Terrific. Alright... My stated reasons for changing out the Zam Wesell character portrait:

"Given that her vast appearances in Star Wars were in her human guise, it's probably fitting that her main character portrait be of her human guise rather than her Clawdite form" Your stated reason for changing it back to her Clawdite form:

"No, the Clawdite picture is her true form, therefore the most representative"

while both rationales seem reasonable, is there a particular instruction from the Wookiepedia manual-of-style indicative of why the second rationale ought precede the first rationale? MercWithMouthTalkPage 09:53, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

I don't see one undo as an edit war :P. But onto the image, no, it isn't in the manual of style, more a long accepted convention. Just like you wouldn't present the infobox image of a character in disguise which is effectively what this is. The Clawdite image is Zam as she really is and so represents her most accurately. Regardless, I would suggest talking this over with Jedimasterfiolli who took this article to featured status and put a lot of thought into choosing the best infobox image which was used when the article was voted on. Hope that explains my undo at least. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 09:59, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

    • Hope that explains my undo at least.

Lol. Actually, yes. It does. I sorta wish you had said that earlier. Tell you what... I'm still gonna continue to make a few edits on the Zam Wesell article -- within reason of course -- but, I will do as you asked and also bring the matter before the one fellow, "Jedimasterfiolli". I'll give him direct links to both versions of the article (I've been changing out more than just the one portrati), and hopefully the matter can come to quiet close from there.
On a related note... Despite her relative obscurity in Star Wars, I'm actually a fairly ardent fan of Zam Wesell. Reason being...? The trade paperbacks she was featured in during 2002 alongside Jango Fett. The trade paperbacks did quite a bit to explore her personality. In addition, it was her 'human guise' that was the basis of the StarWars.com poll for sexiest female in Star Wars. (the others being Leia, Padme, and Shak Ti). Give the books a read if you're so able. They were well-written. MercWithMouthTalkPage 10:10, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

Glitchy Wikia Pages

  • Hey, a totally unrelated point of inquiry. Is it just me, or are many wikis on the wikia-network behaving glitchy today in regards to loading up pages and performing edits? I've been experiencing erratic behavior on the Mortal Kombat, DCau, Star Trek, and Star Wars wikis over the past couple hours?

Please let me know your experiences. MercWithMouthTalkPage 09:55, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, there have been a few issues with loading today, though techs are working on it as far as I know. Grunny (talk) 09:59, May 19, 2010 (UTC)

quick question for you

A trade publication is writing a story about how user-generated articles are becoming more valuable than paid-for articles, and they wanted to know if we had any users who might be interested in talking to them about their experiences with Wikia. Is this something you would be interested in doing? If so could you please email me at sena at wiki-inc.com. I'll need your Name, Email, Phone number and geographic location. Thanks for your time, and please let me know either way. Sena 16:56, May 17, 2010 (UTC)

a quick note from our PR person,

1) Wikia won't give personal contact info to a reporter. I can arrange an interview where we use a dial in number and everyone dials into the call. We do need their real name and most likely the city/state where they live. They may be asked their profession, but that can be vague ("I'm in finance." "I'm in education." etc..) 2) The interview will focus on why they like using Wikia sites and what motivates them, keeps them engaged, etc. 3) From a time investment standpoint, the call with me will be about 30 minutes, and the call with the reporter will take 15-20 minutes. 4) I will be on the call with the reporter and can "shield" them if needed. That said, I've worked with this reporter before, and find him to be professional and above board, and don't expect any probing questions. Plus, he's very positive about Wikia.

If this is OK with them, I can then spend time discussing the details of the interview via phone.

let me know if this is something you could help with. Sena 18:49, May 18, 2010 (UTC)

Dahl

I wanted to get your opinion on the main images. I still plan to improve the article and nom it for the FA's, BTW. Anyway, is the actual article's current image better suited for the infobox, compared to the File:AnjDahl-Leg41.jpg|one I have here? As I said, I will work on her article, don;t be surprised if I come to you for a few more issues regarding her article, as space battles aren't exactly my area of expertise.--Jedi Kasra (comlink) 13:04, May 20, 2010 (UTC)

Hey, Grunny. Just letting you know that we've tweaked the wording of the CT on procedure so that a reply is not required. The new wording features this clause removed from option one: "All users who have cast votes prior to the desired change to be included are directly contacted and have expressed either their approval or rejection of said change by commenting under their vote, or the alteration to the vote is rendered invalid." Disable popups

Hey there, fellow Browncoat! I saw you disabled the create page and the image thumbnail popups via MediaWiki:Monaco.js. I'd like to do it as well on w:c:half-life:MediaWiki:Monaco.js|Combine OverWiki, but a simple copy/paste doesn't work. What did I miss?... Klow 13:23, June 18, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Klow. There's nothing wrong with the what you've added and it should work. The issue will either be really bad caching, which is probably unlikely, or you have something elsewhere that's breaking, i.e. you have something dodgy in your MediaWiki:Common.js that's causing that code not to work. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 21:22, June 18, 2010 (UTC)
Ah. But I wouldn't know what. Do you see something weird here?... Klow 08:16, June 19, 2010 (UTC)
Hey there, could you help me fix this?... :( Klow 09:30, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, sorry, forgot about this :P. Well, to start off, you're creating an element and not attaching it to anything at the start, so I'd replace these three lines:
var script = document.createElement('script');
script.setAttribute('type', 'text/javascript');
script.setAttribute('src', '/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Functions.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&usemsgcache=yes');
with just:
importScript( 'MediaWiki:Functions.js' );
Also, I'd remove the /* <pre><nowiki> */ in the middle there and just put // <pre><nowiki> at the very top. The two functions you have in there should work once you fix the import at the start, so see if things start working once you fix that import. If not, I'll take a closer look at everything. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 12:15, July 1, 2010 (UTC)
Nice, but what do I have to add to Functions.js and Monaco.js?... Klow 18:48, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
Well you already have what you need in Monaco.js, but in Functions.js, either copy what is MediaWiki:Functions.js|here, or revert to Jaymach's version of the page on half-life. But make sure in MediaWiki:Common.js the <pre><nowiki> at the top has // in front of it so it knows it's not JavaScript, i.e. // <pre><nowiki>. Also, if you look at your error console, you have a fatal error being caused by your UserNameReplace function. Do you make use of it? Grunny (talk) 00:44, July 13, 2010 (UTC)
Hey, sorry for answering so late. So, I made everything you said, but nothing works. Why is that?... I'll annoy you until it works. :D Klow 22:15, July 26, 2010 (UTC)
Well you still haven't filled MediaWiki:Functions.js. I'd suggest trying removing your UserNameReplace function, and seeing if it fixes things when you do. It's hard for me to find what's wrong without being able to play around with it myself :P. Grunny (talk) 02:59, August 2, 2010 (UTC)
Ok this time I really did everything you say (actually, reverting to Jaymatch's version, and removing UserNameReplace), and that works! Thanks! ;) Klow 16:16, August 3, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know if your aware of this, but one of the Administrators is acting unprofessionally and being quite rude. I thought that Administrators were suppose to set and example and help people. I don't want to get in trouble or anybody else, but someone needs to know about this guy. I hope he doesn't block me for saying this either. I went to ask him a question and saw that another member asked him why he used profane words and several of his friends have left because of it, and he responded with, "Wookieepedia is not censored. You are more than welcome to join your friends in departing. Depending on how annoying you get, I may have to assist you in doing so". His name is Darth Culator. Please, I am just trying to make you aware of this, not get anyone into trouble. I also don't want to be blocked or something if he gets mad. I thought I would make sure you are aware. I have also told other Bureaucrats. --===DARTHRAGE=== 01:42, July 16, 2010 (UTC)DarthRage

Wookieepedia:Official Friends of Wookieepedia/Nominations

Hey Grunny I am from The Force Unleashed Wikia and you see I need help I have recently become the admin/bureaucrat of the website but I can't seem to get more help. So I came here because this wikia has a large amount of information on the game. I saw the "Official Friends of Wookiepedia" and Nominated it. I think I did something wrong. Perhaps its the admins that put the information? Because no one has even looked at the page but me. I need help on Editing this website. I also need someone who could make a skin for that page. So if you know how to help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Kajalamorth 17:07, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

It probably didn't receive any attention on the Official Friends nominations page because all you put was a link. Take a look at the archive of past nominations and format your nomination the same way, with your support vote stating why you believe your Wiki deserves to be on our Official Friends list per the rules here. Hope that helps. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 23:36, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

CSS and KHTML

Hi, I just did go thru several tests with global wikia CSS files until I realised that I haven't tried commenting out the content in KHTMLFixes.css and guess what, that's the trick. Is this how old fix and safe to assume that it's ok for all reasonably recent versions? I tried with all releases from this year and looks working just like with that "fix" except now sidebar is in right place. This all with Monobook, as Monaco is totally different beast. If you need any more testing, just poke. (: --Tm_T (Talk) 16:19, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

Reconsider article semi-protection

I am tempted to say what I have to say to you, but I will not do so since I am biting my tongue right now to save it. I know that the Jaden Korr article is protected right now, but even though I am not an administrator, like yourself, please, I beg you, heed my warnings of any suspected vandalism that I or any other user fix! I am wanting to help build up wookieepedia, but I see that you are not taking your job as admin seriously. All I can say is that if you and your fellow bureaucrats do not heed our pleas, then all I can say to wookieepedia when I leave this site is "Adieu, Adios, Sienara, and, my personal favorite,...Arrivederci!" I am so close to leaving this site, but what makes me not leave is my love for Star Wars. I have been a Star Wars Fan for most of my life. Don't let me or other Star Wars Fans down. Obi-Wan Kenobody 20px (Cone of Silence) 06:08, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

I do take my job as an admin seriously, which is why I did not protect that article. My responsibility as an admin includes protecting the rights of all users, including anonymous editors. After evaluating the article's history there was no huge amount of vandalism that is not manageable, and a lot of the reversions were due to edits by logged in users, including one piece of speculation added by yourself. I suggest you take the time of your block to reevaluate your attitude before accusing an admin of not doing their job, or resorting to personal attacks. Grunny (talk) 08:50, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

Delete

Hi, Grunny! Please delete Unidentified woman (Anchorhead)'s unnessary redirect. Sorry if this is not the proper way for deleting. Is there a forum for similar deletion problems (I know TC is not the place for this kind of deletion), or should I ask an admin every time? Darth Morrt 13:05, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

  • Hope Grunny doesn't mind if I butt in here. :P If you want a page deleted, you can place {{delete|reason}} on the top of the page to be deleted, and the say for example "CSD" (candidate for spededy deletion) in the edit summary. When an admin browses the cat or sees the edit summary in the recent changes, he/she will delete it. :-) -- 1358 (Talk) 13:16, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

window.wgEnableImageLightboxExt = false;

Just clicked into effect. Thanks for adding that, esteemed Code Wookiee. SinisterSamurai 07:39, October 4, 2010 (UTC)

My friend Jason is working on a wiki, www.starwarstgw.wikia.com. He needs help recreating Template:App on there. Would you, like, help him out? Please?

Creating a new article

So I've been drafting up an article for a webcomic. I have two questions regarding parts of the article I want to make sure follow site policy before I publish it.

  1. Notability: Two full projects have been completed and the creators will complete least three more. The creators have attended many conventions in the country and the comic has even gained the support of the 501st, which has helped to promote the comic. Is it notable enough?
  2. Image Policy (Fan Art): Since this is a fan project, do all images from this project fall under the category of fan art? Or are they allowed since the images come from a published webcomic, despite the fact that it is made by fans exclusively?

If there is any other criteria you are concerned might make this article unfit for the wiki, I would be glad to let you know. –– Darth Shohet –– 02:51, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

If the images are from the subject of the article, they wouldn't be deleted as fan art. As for the notability, I don't know enough about the article you intend to make right now to make a judgment call on it. You can try starting an SH thread and ask about the notability of it. Or you can also consider whether it would be more suited to our sister Wiki, the Star Wars Fanpedia. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 00:10, October 11, 2010 (UTC)
  • Well, it is more notable than Darths & Droids, another fan webcomic, unless that one slipped under the radar. –– Darth Shohet –– 00:36, October 11, 2010 (UTC)

Achievements

A lot of new wikis have Achievements, which give users virtual badges for doing certain things. Can Wookiepedia get them?

All that needs to happen is for someone to request them in Special:Contact. Herochild 22:42, October 9, 2010 (UTC)

Wookieepedia will not have Achievements as we as a community have decided not to use such features. Cheers, Grunny (talk) 23:57, October 9, 2010 (UTC)
