The Imperial Remnants were founded with the dream of restoring the Galactic Empire.
Imperial Remnant was an ambiguous term during the time of the New Republic Era in relation to the various Imperial holdout remnants that emerged from the Galactic Empire. Some, like Hera Syndulla, used the term to define the remnants collectively as a single entity, while others, like Hamato Xiono, disagreed with her use of “Imperial Remnant” as an organizational term.[1]
These included factions, states, fiefdoms, holdouts, and warlords that remained after the dissolution of the Empire in 5 ABY, as well as those that emerged after the apparent death of Emperor Palpatine at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. These factions, some of which existed in the years following the Galactic Civil War, included:
Post-Endor Imperial Remnants
After the apparent demise of Emperor Palpatine, several factions and territories split away from the greater Empire, while others fell to infighting for influence and control in the power vacuum left by the Emperor's fall, fracturing and fragmenting the Empire across the galaxy.
- The Chadawan government, a rogue Imperial Remnant led by Governor Bordanivaux and supported by Colonel Madrighast based on the world Chadawa.
- The Imperial-Royalist coalition, a coalition remnant of the Empire located on Xagobah.
- Imperial territory G5-623, an Imperial Remnant led by Grand Moff Lozen Tolruck based on the Mid Rim world of Kashyyyk.
- Kenner Loring's faction, an Imperial Remnant on Malastare led by Grand General Kenner Loring.
- Moff Royen's fleet, an Imperial Remnant fleet controlled by Moff Royen that was located in the Red Hand Cluster.
- Ubrik Adelhard's Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant in the Anoat sector led by Governor Ubrik Adelhard.
- Velcar Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant led by Governor Ecressys in the Velcar sector.
- Visler Korda's faction, an Imperial Remnant led by Commodore Visler Korda and situated on Rekkana.
- The Yomo Council, an Imperial Remnant that broke away from the Empire and refused to acknowledge Grand Vizier Mas Amedda and the loyalist forces. The council led by Governor Brashan and General Tuluh in Fedovoi End.
New Republic Era Imperial Remnants
After the civil war ended and the Empire was dissolved, several successor states and holdouts remained across the galaxy, some of which would settle for peace with the New Republic, while others took up arms against the new government.
- Shadow Council, an alliance of various Imperial Remnants under the theoretical leadership of Grand Admiral-in-exile Thrawn.
- Gilad Pellaeon's delegation, an Imperial Remnant led by Captain Gilad Pellaeon. This Remnant was part of the Shadow Council. The delegation fell under the authority of Grand Admiral Thrawn, though he was absent from the Shadow Council.
- Gideon's Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant led by Moff Gideon by 9 ABY. Their base of operations was on Mandalore.
- Morgan Elsbeth's forces, an Imperial Remnant led by the Nightsister witch Morgan Elsbeth. Elsbeth was loyal to Grand Admiral Thrawn. Her goal has to bring Thrawn back from another galaxy, where he was banished.
- The inner systems' Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant and navy located in the Core Worlds, Colonies, and Inner Rim. The Remnant fragmented and became the Centrists faction within the New Republic Senate.
- The Jakku Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant formed on Jakku that continued fighting at the Battle of Jakku for months despite the signing of the Galactic Concordance.
- The Morak Imperial remnants, a group of Imperial Remnants based on the mining planet Morak.
- Queluhan Nebula Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant led by Grand Moff Randd in the Queluhan Nebula.
- The Unknown Regions Imperial remnant, an Imperial Remnant led by Grand Admiral Rae Sloane that retreated into the Unknown Regions and eventually became the basis of the First Order.
- Imperial remnant (Cold War), an Imperial Remnant active during the Cold War, which became part of the First Order
