- «No, but the term generalissimo is supposedly used by a couple of nations out past the Tarleev. It refers to someone who's both the chief military commander and the chief civilian leader.»
- ―Ar'alani, to Lakinda
The Tarleev was a location within the Unknown Regions. Several nations situated beyond the location used the title of generalissimo—which referred to someone who was simultaneously the chief civilian leader and chief military commander of a nation.[1] In 18 BBY,[2] Admiral Ar'alani of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet mentioned the Tarleev while explaining what a generalissimo was to the commander of the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike, Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro—core name "Lakinda"—while trying to identify a new threat to the Chiss Ascendancy. The senior captain replied that if the threat was from the area near the Tarleev, it had traveled a great distance to reach the Ascendancy.[1]
Behind the scenes
Tarleev was mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, the second volume in Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy.[1] Jason Fry, author of the "Star Systems of the Galaxy" appendix of star systems that was released alongside Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com on June 24, 2025, stated on his personal Substack that the Tarleev was among a number of systems that were intentionally unlisted due to lacking defined coordinates.[3]
