- «No, but the term generalissimo is supposedly used by a couple of nations out past the Tarleev. […] It refers to someone who's both the chief military commander and the chief civilian leader. Generalirius might be related to that term.»
- ―Admiral Ar'alani
Generalissimo was a military and political title held by individuals who were the chief military commander and the chief civilian leader of a nation. The title was used by several nations beyond the Tarleev region of the Unknown Regions.[1] Around 18 BBY,[2] Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet Admiral Ar'alani engaged in a skirmish over the Unknown Regions planet Sunrise against the[1] Grysk Shatter-class WarMaster HopeBreaker,[3] whose commander mentioned the title of generalirius. Ar'alani believed that the title could be related to the title of generalissimo, telling her subordinate, Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, core name "Lakinda," the latter title's meaning.[1]
Behind the scenes
The generalissimo rank was mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, the second volume in Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy.[1] In the real world, a generalissimo was the leader of an army.[4]
