Talay was an astronomical object[3] located in an eponymous star system within an intersecting portion of the Mid Rim Territories[1] and the Slice.[2] Situated in the Dufilvan sector at the coordinates Q-16 on the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] it served as an operations headquarters for an organized rebellion against the Galactic Empire secretly led by Senator Mon Mothma,[3] by 2 BBY.[4] Talay's status in the rebellion was noted in a map of the galaxy that was sent to Mothma[3] in 2 BBY,[4] listing rebel safe worlds, starfighter hubs at level five or higher, operations headquarters, shadow planets, and deep space caches. Archivist Hendri Underholt later included the map in the compilation of non-electronic documents known as The Rebel Files.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Talay was introduced in the 2017 reference book Star Wars: The Rebel Files, written by Daniel Wallace.[3] The planet Talay[5] first appeared in[6] the February 1995[7] Star Wars Legends video game Star Wars: Dark Forces. While in-game dialogue[6] and game script referred to the location as a city,[5] the April 1995[8] reference supplement Dark Forces Official Player's Guide also referred to the planet Talay as a separate entity.[5] Later sources acknowledged the separation.[9][10]
