"Tell you what, I'll make you spicy noodles for lunch, and then we can duel a bit."
―Yacek Sparkburn, to Imri Cantaros[1]

Spicy noodles were a type of noodle edible by humans. During the High Republic Era, the vendor Koko served spicy noodles in their cart Koko Noodle at the outpost Port Haileap on the Outer Rim planet Haileap. By 232 BBY, the human Jedi Padawan Imri Cantaros ate from Koko Noodle while he was stationed at Port Haileap, considering the cart to be his favorite place to eat, and its noodles the spiciest and tangiest in Port Haileap.

In 230 BBY, the human scientist Avon Starros considered visiting the cart to get some lunch, but was unable to because she was captured during an attack on the outpost by the Nihil pirates. The attack also resulted in the destruction of Koko Noodle, which dismayed Cantaros when he found out. While the Padawan was later on the Outer Rim planet Dalna, Jedi Knight Yacek Sparkburn informed him that he would cook him spicy noodles for lunch. After he arrived on the Outer Rim planet Aricho no earlier than 230 BBY, Cantaros continued to think about the destroyed noodle cart.

Description

"I really hope Dalna has something like the spicy noodles from Port Haileap."
―Imri Cantaros, to Vernestra Rwoh[1]

Spicy noodles were a type of noodle edible by humans. The human Jedi Padawan Imri Cantaros considered the spicy noodles sold at the noodle cart Koko Noodle to be the spiciest and tangiest of those in Port Haileap, an outpost on[1] the Outer Rim planet Haileap.[2]

History

Imri's favorite noodles

"Ahhhh, look at the noodle cart! Sorry, I know there's a lot of other damage. But that was my favorite place to eat."
―Imri Cantaros, to Vernestra Rwoh[1]

By 232 BBY,[3] the vendor Koko served spicy noodles at their noodle cart, Koko Noodle, at Port Haileap. While he was stationed at the outpost, the human Jedi Padawan Imri Cantaros ate at Koko Noodle, coming to consider the cart his favorite place to eat.[1] In 230 BBY,[4] the human scientist Avon Starros, who was stationed at Port Haileap, considered visiting the cart to get some lunch, though she was prevented from doing so as the outpost came under attack by the Nihil pirates. During the attack, Starros was captured and Koko Noodle was destroyed.[1]

Shortly after the attack, Cantaros and his Master—the Mirialan Jedi Knight Vernestra Rwoh—visited Port Haileap, and the Padawan saw the wreckage of the destroyed noodle cart and immediately became devastated before quickly becoming embarrassed by his reaction. As he later looked at the destroyed cart, Cantaros wondered what the Nihil would have gotten from destroying the cart with the spiciest and tangiest noodles in all of Port Haileap. He mentally noted Koko had not been seen since the attack and attempted to repair the cart using the Force. Afterward, as Cantaros and Rwoh traveled to[1] the Outer Rim[2] planet Dalna, the Padawan expressed hope that he would be able to get spicy noodles there like the ones from Koko Noodle.[1]

Remembrance

"I can't tell you how many nights I spent thinking about the noodle cart in Port Haileap!"
―Imri Cantaros, to Vernestra Rwoh[5]

While on Dalna, the two Jedi accompanied the human Jedi Knight Yacek Sparkburn—who was stationed at Dalna's Jedi temple—to Dalna's capital city Saludad to speak with Vice President Hackrack Bep about a series of disappearances. When it was determined they would need to return to the Jedi temple to wait for Cantaros' and Rwoh's friend Honesty Weft to visit them with information, the Padawan groaned at having to do more waiting. In response, Sparkburn stated that after they arrived back at the temple, he would cook him spicy noodles for lunch to help pass the time.[1]

After the destruction of the Galactic Republic space station Starlight Beacon by the Nihil[5] in 230 BBY,[6] Cantaros began hiding on the Outer Rim planet Aricho and spent a number of nights thinking about the noodles. After being reunited with his Master[5] in 228 BBY,[6] the Padawan told Rwoh about the nights he had spent thinking about them.[5]

Behind the scenes

Spicy noodles were first mentioned in the 2022 junior novel The High Republic: Mission to Disaster, written by Justina Ireland and published as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[7] When asked what Imri Cantaros' favorite type of noodle pasta was, Ireland stated that all types of noodles were good noodles.[8]

  6. 6.0 6.1 Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic Adventures (2023) 4 takes place one year and two weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, it must be set in 228 BBY. Since the events of The High Republic Adventures (2023) 6 are set immediately following the fourth issue and depict the expansion of the Stormwall, the expansion must have taken place in the same year. Meanwhile, the events of "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: No Big Deal" include the Stormwall's expansion and also depict the start of Pikka Adren's pregnancy. A later story, "Tales from the Occlusion Zone: Sparks Fly," states that Adren is eight months pregnant during its events, indicating that it is set eight months after "No Big Deal," and therefore one year, eight months, and two weeks after the fall of Starlight Beacon. "Sparks Fly" is set during the Battle of Eriadu, an event that begins in The High Republic Adventures Phase III - The Wedding Spectacular.
