- "The law says when you deal with a demon you must expect to get burned."
- ―Foolookoola
Demon was a generic term for a malevolent supernatural creature, which was used to refer to creatures in a number of cultures' mythologies. The term devil was also used. Worlds which had some form of demon myth included Somov Rit (the swamp demon),[2] Ootoola,[1] and Naboo (the Cacodemon).[3] It is unknown if they were somewhat related to the mythological Hell, though some cultures would qualify demonic creatures as hell-spawned.
Before the birth of the Jedi Order, many lone Force-sensitives were regarded as demons by those who did not understand their powers.[4]
In a thousand different myths, demons sported horns[5] (just like the dark side of the Force entity Smoke Demon),[6] which led many species to feel discomfort when meeting male Devaronians.[5] With her red skin, horns and fiery eyes, the Iktotchi Darth Cognus was also compared to a demon.[7]
During the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, the Gungan Boss Ganne was shocked by the appearance of the Dathomirian Zabrak Darth Maul, believing him to be something akin to a devil.[8]
Palpatine was considered to have turned into a demon after the rise of the Galactic Empire, although it was also believed he may have been a demon all along.[9]
Suzal referred to Wutzek as a demon.[10]
