Plot summary

In the wrenched depths of the junk world Lotho Minor, Darth Maul is a shattered madman held together only by his longing for vengeance. His mind reels back to his childhood, recalling the grueling tests undertaken as young as three, as he was raised by droids on Mustafar and served his dark mentor, Darth Sidious. Maul recalls his teen years spent at the brutal Orsis Academy, a combat school where he was prohibited from using the Force while learning martial and survival skills. He recalls his ascension to Sith Lord after passing cruel trials on Hypori, and his defeat by Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Battle of Naboo. Maul snaps out of his reflection with the arrival of his brother, Savage Opress, who has been sent on a quest to find him.

Development

The Wrath of Darth Maul is similar to other biographies written by Ryder Windham: The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader (2007), The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi (2008), and A New Hope: The Life of Luke Skywalker (2009).[2] In 2014, the four titles were collected in the digital compendium Star Wars: Lives & Adventures.[3]

Continuity

The 2012 reference book The Essential Reader's Companion dates the events of The Wrath of Darth Maul to circa 21 BBY, with flashbacks to 51 BBY, 48 BBY, 44 BBY, 41 BBY, 39 BBY, and 32 BBY. It is placed between the novels Republic Commando: True Colors (2007) and MedStar I: Battle Surgeons (2004).[2]

The novel adapts scenes from other Darth Maul stories, such as "Restraint" (2011), "End Game" (2012), and Star Wars Episode I Journal: Darth Maul (2000).[2]
