"Did you water it down?"
"Pinkapple juice."
―Elzar Mann and Avar Kriss, as they shared diluted sourstone mead[1]

Sourstone mead was a type of mead potable to humans. It could be found on the planet Coruscant and stored in ceramic bottles. During the High Republic Era, the Jedi Padawans Avar Kriss, Elzar Mann, and Stellan Gios often enjoyed the beverage, though had to sneak around to acquire it. The teenagers mixed pinkapple juice into the liquor to reduce its potency for Gios' sake, intending to sweeten its flavor. Many years later[1] in 228 BBY,[2] after Gios' death, Kriss and Mann—now Jedi Masters—drank cups of sourstone mead in the latter Master's quarters in the Coruscant Jedi Temple. The pair reminisced over their friend's passing as they paired the drink—which they diluted with pinkapple juice—with keldov nut pastries, though Kriss reflected that the mead did not taste as good as it did when her friends were all teenagers.[1]

Behind the scenes

Sourstone mead appeared in the novel The High Republic: Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton[1] for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III and published on June 11, 2024.[3] Prior to its release, a mention of the mead was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on May 20 of that year.[4]
