- "There are three buns."
"When I walked into the shop, I was so overwhelmed. It smells exactly the same, the menu is the same, the eat-in stools are just as chipped, that old painting over the pickup counter is the same. I ordered what I always ordered without thinking, and when I realized, I couldn’t bring myself to make any corrections." - ―Elzar Mann and Avar Kriss
Keldov nut pastries were a type of rich dark brown-crusted pastry made from keldov nuts. The pastries were edible to humans and could be found in the eatery Tal-Iree's on the planet Coruscant during the High Republic Era. When the Jedi Avar Kriss, Elzar Mann, and Stellan Gios were Padawans, they enjoyed the buns often and became familiar with visiting Tal-Iree's.[1]
Upon Gios' death in 230 BBY,[2] his friends—by then Jedi Masters—grieved his loss.[1] In 228 BBY,[3] Kriss bought three keldov nut pastries from Tal-Iree's, initially forgetting to change the quantity of her order out of habit. She brought them to Mann's quarters in Coruscant's Jedi Temple, where the latter Jedi noticed the amount of pastries, prompting Kriss to explain what had happened. The pair drank diluted sourstone mead and shared the treats while discussing recent developments in the galaxy's conflict against the Nihil marauders.[1]
Behind the scenes
Keldov nut pastries appeared in the novel The High Republic: Temptation of the Force, written by Tessa Gratton[1] for the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III and published on June 11, 2024.[4] Prior to its release, a mention of the pastries was included in a StarWars.com preview for the novel on May 20 of that year.[5]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Starlight Beacon's destruction to 230 BBY. The implementation of the Guardian Protocols, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia places in 229 BBY, took place one week after Starlight Beacon's fall according to The High Republic – Shadows of Starlight 1. As The High Republic: Temptation of the Force takes place one year and six weeks after the destruction of Starlight Beacon and its events span a few months, it must be set in 228 BBY.
