- "She had the skin-scribe give her a tattoo of her own, the runes spelling my name! Mine!."
- ―Yarzion Vell, to Ordea
A skin-scribe was an individual whose duties included applying tattoos using a tool.[1] By 230 BBY,[2] a skin-scribe gave a tattoo to Jedi Padawan Yarzion Vell, who had returned to his homeworld on a mission and decided to follow the planet's tradition of being tattooed with the name of one's greatest teacher as a sign of respect. The tattoo Vell received spelled the name of his Jedi Master, Lulad, in runes from his ancestor's language. When Lulad learned what Vell had done, she had the skin-scribe give her a tattoo of her own, with the runes spelling Vell's name, as she believed that a Jedi Master's greatest lessons came from those they taught.[1]
In 227 BBY,[2] after Lulad's death, Vell told his new Master, Kelnacca, about the skin-scribe while explaining his tattoo's meaning.[1] Around 149 BBY,[3] as Vell was dying, he mentioned being tattooed by the skin-scribe to his own Padawan, Ordea.[1]
