- "Sarka, the gem of the sky. Planet of endless treasures. Of spectacular caves! Of dazzling rivers and colossal waterfalls. A place where every breath of wind is music! Where even raindrops glisten gold! All hail Sarka, land of eternal joy!"
- ―Rooz
Sarka was a planet located in the galaxy's Mid Rim, in grid square Q-8 on the Standard Galactic Grid. It was the homeworld of the reptilian Sarkan species. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Sarka was ruled by Queen Zil.
Description
Sarka's terrain
Sarka was a planet[3] located in the Sarka system in the Sarka sector of the Mid Rim Territories, in grid square Q-8 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Its surface was covered in caverns, jungles, mountains, rivers, and waterfalls. The native Sarkans lived underground in large caves where they mined gems such as aqua jewels and corusca gems. Sarka had an atmosphere breathable to humans.[3]
History
Sometime prior to the Galactic Civil War, the great-great-great grandmother of Queen Zil broke into the Palace of the Queen of the Sarkans to rescue Zil's great-great grandfather from a mob.[3]
During the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire purchased gemstones from the Sarkan gem mines.[3]
During the Galactic Civil War, Queen Zil hosted an envoy from the Alliance to Restore the Republic. However, Lord Rooz contacted an Imperial agent, intending to disrupt the summit.[3]
Inhabitants
- "The Sarkans live underground—it's where they do their gem mining."
- ―Luke Skywalker, to C-3PO
Sarka was the homeworld of the Sarkans, a species of bipedal,[3] egg-laying[4] reptiles. The Sarkans often wore bright, colorful robes, and their economy was based around trading the gems they mined. The Sarkans were ruled by a monarchy, which during the Galactic Civil War was led by Queen Zil, who was served by her advisor Lord Rooz. Sarkan culture was heavily based around an ever-changing array of protocols, and visitors to the world were expected to be polite and knowledgeable of the current customs. The most important one of these rules was believed by C-3PO to be the one that forbade any Sarkan from standing on the Royal Seal.[3]
