Rootwood was a type of wood that was edible by humans. Sweet roasted spire acorns were a type of food that did not actually consist of acorns and were instead soft chunks of rootwood that were soaked and then cooked. They were loved by the human hyperspace prospector Dass Leffbruk.[1] In 382 BBY,[2] the human Jedi Padawan Rooper Nitani, who know Leffbruk loved sweet roasted spire acorns, purchased two skewers of them from a food stall in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu. However, she never ate the skewers, as she was forced to drop them while resolving a dispute over the ownership of the starship Brightbird.[1]

Behind the scenes

In the current Star Wars canon, rootwood appeared in the 2023 junior novel The High Republic: Quest for Planet X, written by Tessa Gratton as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase II.[3] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, rootwood appeared in The Adventures of Teebo: A Tale of Magic and Suspense, a 1984 young reader book written by Joe Johnston.[4]
