R5-D5[4] was an R5 series astromech droid[2] manufactured by Industrial Automaton.[1] In 9 BBY,[5] the R-series[1] astromech droid was operating on the Imperial-controlled planet Mapuzo, where it worked alongside the loader droid NED-B on a landing pad atop a flat mesa.[3]

Both droids were present when the TR-286 transport[3] designated transport eight[6] arrived[3] from the planet Daiyu.[6] As the ship's droids began to unload its cargo, NED-B gestured to R5-D5, who stood next to[3] a communications silo.[2] The astromech droid then turned to the silo as the stowaways Obi-Wan Kenobi and Princess Leia Organa snuck out of transport eight behind the droids' backs. R5-D5 had pink-and-white plating, black sensors,[3] and stood ninety-seven centimeters tall.[1]
