R2-D2 and BB-8's Super Snowy Shenanigans

"R2-D2 and BB-8's Super Snowy Shenanigans" is the seventh episode of the web series Star Wars: Droid Diaries. The episode was released on October 31, 2025 on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.^[1]

R2-D2 and BB-8 review some classified Resistance files and an enemy droid steals them out of nowhere and speeds off down the snowy slopes! R2-D2 and BB-8 race after him to take back what's theirs! Can they catch him before he gets away with their secrets?^[1]

Plot summary

In a remote mountaintop Resistance outpost, R2-D2 and BB-8 insert a datacard into a holotable. The table projects a map of the galaxy, with several locations marked with the Resistance firebird. As the droids study the file, they hear a strange whirring at the snowy entrance. The turn to see a mound of displaced snow, something burrowing in the ground on which they stand. The mound encircles the astromechs before approaching the holotable and stopping.

R2-D2 and BB-8 approach the strange displacement when a tiny antenna topped with a miniature rectenna pops out. It circles around before settling on the datacard. The rectenna recalibrates into a manipulator arm, snatches the datacard, and pulls it into the mound of snow.

R2-D2 and BB-8 panic at the security breach. They chase the quickly-moving mound out of the cave and to the edge of a nearby cliff. Out of the mound pops a First Order BB-series astromech droid, the datacard in hand. BB-8 reaches out, asking for the datacard back, but the other BB unit extends a skimboard-like attachment from his chassis, waves goodbye, and throws himself off the cliff side onto a snowy slope, using the board to ski down smoothly.

BB-8 and R2-D2 look out towards their escaping enemy, realizing they have to act quickly. R2-D2 gives himself a running start and thrusts himself after the thief, sliding down the slope on his ventral surface. BB-8 takes a moment to consider what just occurred and opts to take a more controlled approach. He uses a manipulator arm to grasp a mound of snow, and slowly rolls onto the steep slope. The snow gives under the weight of the droid, and he starts to tumble erratically down the slope.

Farther down the mountain, R2-D2 catches up with the interloper, but cannot get close enough to apprehend him. Eventually, the First Order droid and R2-D2 each run into a small, icy bump in a larger mound. Their impacts do not impede their own speed, but crack the ice, revealing the bump to be a massive eye. The awakened creature sees BB-8 bouncing toward it, so it cracks through the layers of ice and snow to open its gaping maw, laden with numerous teeth. Before the creature can eat BB-8, however, the droid steers himself toward a small natural ice ramp, using it to jump over the creature's massive head.

As BB-8 lands back onto the slope, he starts to pick up some snow. This leads to a chain reaction in which the snow accumulates into a gigantic snowball barreling down the mountain. Meanwhile, R2-D2 finally gets close enough to the thief to extend his electro-shock prod, stunning the droid, who promptly drops the datacard.

R2-D2 and the First Order droid come to a stop at a leveling of the slope. They face one another, the datacard in between. The tension is soon broken by BB-8's massive snowball rolling ever closer. BB-8, however, passes perfectly between the droids, and both look onwards as BB-8 rolls ever farther away. The tension returns as the enemies glance back at the datacard, and both raise a manipulator arm, ready to fight for the intelligence.

At the end of the leveled section of slope, a prolonged ascending slope causes BB-8 to slow and eventually roll back in the direction from which he came, straight back towards the datacard. R2-D2 and the First Order droid tug on the datacard hoping to wrench it out of the other's grip. Soon the shadow of the massive snowball approaches, and R2-D2 releases the datacard and uses his rocket boosters to jump out of the way. It is too late for the First Order droid, and he is pummeled by the massive ball of snow.

The First Order droid incapacitated, BB-8 and R2-D2 reclaim the Resistance datacard before giving each other a high-five with their manipulator arms.
