"Babu Frik's Repair Shop Malfunction," also titled "R2-D2 and BB-8's Quest for a New Arm!," is the second episode of the web series Star Wars: Droid Diaries. The episode was released on September 12, 2025 on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel.[1]
Official description
R2-D2 goes to Babu Frik's repair shop with BB-8 to fix his broken arm and they end up getting trapped in the disassembly line below the shop! Will they escape before they’re turned into parts?[1]
Plot summary
The episode opens with a wide landscape shot of the Millennium Falcon parked inside a hangar. Inside a workshop, Babu Frik is repairing an R5 series astromech droid. R2-D2 and BB-8 enter the workshop. R2-D2 asks Frik to repair one of his damaged grappling appendages but Babu Frik tells him to join a queue consisting of D-O and R5-D4. While waiting outside, the two astromech droids fall down a trap door, which leads to a factory conveyer belt network within a droid disassembling factory.
BB-8 dodgers several dismantling arms and a crushing machine to land safely in the junk pile. R2-D2 uses his grappling cable to latch onto a repulsorlift barge but hits a pillar. The repulsorlift barge then drags R2-D2 through several factory machines including a freezer unit. As he approaches BB-8, R2-D2 attempts to reach out to him but is unable to because of his faulty appendage. As the droid carries R2-D2 away into a container full of discarded droid arms, the ground beneath BB-8 opens into a chute that leads to a fiery furnace.
BB-8 attempts to latch onto a repulsorlift barge with his grappling cable but misses. Fortunately, R2-D2, who had acquired a red arm, pulls him to safety. The two arrive at Babu Frik's workshop just as the mechanic has found a new grappling appendage for R2-D2. R2-D2, who is now sporting a red arm, declines Frik's offer.
