"Poor little Nihil. You never heard of a trap?"
―Porter Engle, to Slombo[3]

Quilken was an astronomical object in the Abrion sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Between 231 BBY and 230 BBY, the Jedi Porter Engle laid a trap for the Nihil marauders, luring in the Storm Slombo and Tempest Runner Lourna Dee under the guise that a vault on Quilken contained treasure. Once they realized that the vault only contained a Jedi, Dee quickly abandoned Slombo, leaving him to be captured by Engle.

Description

Quilken was a terrestrial astronomical object[3] located in the Quilken system in the Abrion sector of the Outer Rim Territories,[1] situated in grid square R-15 of the Standard Galactic Grid along the[4] Manda Merchant Run.[2] At least one settlement was located on Quilken, and its terrain featured rocks.

History

"Although I admit, you took your time breaking in…"
―Porter Engle teases the Nihil[3]

Between 231 BBY and 230 BBY[5] the group of pirates known as the Nihil learned of a vault of valuable treasure located on Quilken. The Storm Slombo commanded the initial attack, ordering his troops to defeat the droids guarding the vault. Frustratingly for Slombo, the Nihil had difficulty taking care of the guards, but they were saved when Tempest Runner Lourna Dee arrived above Quilken, bearing the same intel of items of interest to the Nihil being located in the vault. Slombo objected to Dee taking over his mission, but Dee simply had another Nihil, Muglan Tarantyne, utilize scav droids to dismantle the guards.[3]

While they worked, Dee lectured Slombo on how to better breach defenses and then entered the vault with him, only to be surprised by the presence of a Jedi, Porter Engle. Dee focused on attacking him, but Slombo was confused about the lack of treasure, amusing Engle, who had in fact lured the Nihil in with a trap. Slombo decided to disregard the lack of treasure and go instead for Engle, but when he checked to see where Dee was, he realized that she had abandoned him and left Quilken, having no intent on dealing with a Jedi. Engle quickly captured the Nihil and contacted the[3] Galactic Republic space station[6] Starlight Beacon, informing them of his haul.[3]

Behind the scenes

Quilken first appeared in the new Star Wars canon in "The Haul," a comic story written by Cavan Scott, illustrated by Stefano Simeone, and published in The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021[3] on December 15, 2021.[7] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Quilken first appeared in "Lando Calrissian: Idiot's Array," a Hyperspace-exclusive short story authored by Rich Handley and first published online in 2008.[8]
