"Lando Calrissian: Idiot's Array" is a short story written by Rich Handley, originally exclusive to Hyperspace. It is a sequel to two previous stories by Handley: Crimson Bounty, in Star Wars Adventure Journal 14, which featured the bounty hunter Thune, and "Lady Luck" in Star Wars Tales 3, which explained how Lando won Cloud City with help from Lobot. Idiot's Array brings back Thune, who has been hired to track down Lando and Lobot for their actions in Lady Luck. The story was originally slated to appear in Star Wars Gamer magazine, but never saw publication due to that magazines cancellation. Years later, it was finally published on Hyperspace. On October 1, 2012, it was republished on Suvudu, a subsidiary website of Random House publishing.
Plot summary
Just as Lando Calrissian is getting the hang of being the “respectable” administrator of Cloud City, he is targeted for assassination by Dominic Raynor, the city's former administrator. Lando escapes a bombing of his office, but allows the media to report on his death to prevent Raynor from striking again and endangering any more innocent lives. He and Lobot depart Cloud City aboard Lando's ship, Cobra, but are hounded by the tenacious bounty hunter Thune. Lando voyages to Quilken, site of a casino operated by his old friend Mungo Baobab. Lobot, Lando and Mungo are able to capture Thune when she strikes again, and Lando coerces her to drop her current target and hunt Raynor instead. After this caper, Lando briefly revels in the chance he had to be a scoundrel once more.
Continuity
The short story made several references to Lando's backstory as presented in the Expanded Universe, most notably the trilogy of novels by L. Neil Smith published by Del Rey Books in 1983, the Lady Luck comic book story published in Star Wars Tales #3 in 2000 by Dark Horse Comics, and "Sweetheart Contract" from Marvel Comics' Star Wars #83 in 1984.[2]
