Quell was the principal planet of the Quell system in the Outer Rim. During the Clone Wars, a battle was fought between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems in the upper atmosphere of the planet.
Description
Quell was the principal planet of the star system that bore its name[4] and one of many remote worlds[6] located in the far reaches[4] of the Outer Rim Territories.[1] Quell lay along the Salin Corridor, the largest hyperspace route that crossed the entire Trans-Hydian region.[5]
Quell was a terrestrial planet[6] that, from realspace, appeared as a cerulean sphere[7] shrouded in thick cloud masses. During the final century of the Galactic Republic, Quell was home to members of various sentient species.[6]
History
Sky battle over Quell
In the early stages[8] of the Clone Wars, Quell was located in the contested Outer Rim Territories[1] and had the misfortune of becoming a battleground between Separatist and Republic forces[6], who clashed high in the rarified atmosphere of the planet.[7] While on a mission to Quell,[9] Jedi General Aayla Secura and her flotilla of three Republic Navy Venator-class Star Destroyers were ambushed in the planet's upper atmosphere by a Confederate Navy fleet[1] of seven Munificent-class star frigates.[10] The battle did not end well for the Republic and resulted in a Separatist victory.[11]
Decades after the Clone Wars, Quell once again became a battlefield. Between 12 and 13 ABY, the New Republic attacked the forces of the Imperial Remnant in the contested Trans-Hydian territories, which had previously been controlled by various Imperial warlords. The Republic and Imperial forces clashed on Quell, and the Republic emerged victorious.[5]
Behind the scenes
- "The direction was to make it [the battle] the upper stratosphere, almost in between space and the atmosphere, with only clouds far below."

The planet Quell in the video game LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
The planet Quell was featured as the opening act of "Jedi Crash," the thirteenth episode in the 2009 Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series' first season.[1] In a publication on the official website StarWars.com, it was stated that the script had originally described the battle over Quell as taking place in space, but it was shifted to the upper atmosphere for dramatic effect as the show entered preproduction. Naturally, such a change in altitude created all sorts of problems for a hyperdrive, according to the established lore on how such devices functioned near planets.[7]
Quell's surface has only appeared in the non-canon video game LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars. Unlike its seemingly habitable conditions, the planet’s landscape consisted of lifeless gray rocky mountains and appeared bleak.[13]
