The Pipada system was located in the Videnda sector, a part of the Outer Rim Territories[1] and Western Reaches.[2] It was situated in grid square M-18 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The system held the planet Pipada, which was home to at least half a million members of the native Drabatan species. Hutts and Shawda Ubb also resided on the planet.[3]
By 1 BBY,[4] during the Imperial Era, Pipada was blockaded and occupied by the Galactic Empire as a result of Drabatans speaking out against the Imperial regime. After the singer Sa'Kalla wrote popular protest songs against the Empire, she was captured and executed in the Pipada Auditorium. After this, the Drabatans fought off the Empire and temporarily reclaimed the planet. However, Imperial reinforcements recaptured the planet and stripped it of its resources, forcing the Drabatan species to abandon the world.[3]
Behind the scenes
The Pipada system was first mentioned on a map[5] designed by Christopher Ibbitt[6] that was created for the reference book Star Wars: Timelines and given out as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim[7] on May 27, 2022[8] prior to the book's release during Celebration Europe[9] of April 7 through 10, 2023.[10] The system was later identified in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the Star Wars Galaxy Map article on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both works were authored by Jason Fry.[11]

- ↑ Dawn of Rebellion states that Sa'Kalla's name was used as a battle cry after her death during the crackdown on Pipada. As her name is used as a battle cry in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story—which Star Wars: Timelines dates the events of to 1 BBY—the crackdown and her passing must have occurred by that year.
