"Grindalids hail from Persis IX, a gloomy, cloud-covered world in the Expansion Region […]"
―The Galactic Explorer's Guide[4]

Persis IX was an Expansion Region world that was home to the sentient, worm-like Grindalid species. Its dense atmosphere blocked most of the light, to which the Grindalids' eyes and skin were highly sensitive.

Description

"The Grindalid homeworld has such a dense atmosphere that little light is let in, giving the native species very sensitive eyes that are easily damaged on lighter worlds."
―An entry of an artist's journal[5]

Persis IX was a world[4] located in the Bes Ber Bikade sector[3] of the Expansion Region[1] and the Trailing Sectors.[2] It was situated in grid square L-15 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] Persis IX occupied the ninth orbital position[4] in the Persis system,[3] and it was a gloomy, cloud-covered world.[4] Its atmosphere was so dense that it filtered out most of the light.[5]

History

At some point, Persis IX was referred to in an entry of an artist's journal dedicated to the world's native Grindalid species. The journal was eventually restored, expanded, and displayed at the Graf Archive[5] at some point no earlier than 34 ABY.[6] In the journal, the entry on the Grindalids was grouped together with passages describing species from humid habitats.[5] Around the same time,[7] Persis IX was also mentioned in the book Galactic Explorer's Guide, which was authored by the pirate Hondo Ohnaka and his protocol droid, DK-RA-43.[4]

Inhabitants

Persis IX was the homeworld of the sentient, worm-like Grindalid species,[4] which was adapted for living underwater.[8] Their eyes were highly sensitive to light,[5] and their skin burned upon contact with direct sunlight.[4]

Behind the scenes

The Grindalid homeworld was first mentioned in Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, a 2018 reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo.[8] It was first identified as Persis IX by the 2019 book Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide by Jason Fry.[4]
