- "Remember the ice planet I was talking about before? Atoa, right? Before I left, I grabbed a Permafrost crystal. So now on the lava planet, when the Fireworm opened up its jaws and came for me, I shoved the crystal right in its maw."
- ―Sentinel
Permafrost crystal was a type of crystal that existed in the galaxy.[1] In 9 ABY,[2] the human[3] Hunter Sentinel shared his past as an Imperial stormtrooper during an interview session[1] for the competitive sporting show Hunters of the Outer Rim.[4] In the story, Sentinel claimed that he found a Permafrost crystal on an ice planet, though he was unsure if it was the planets Hoth, Gigor, or Atoa. He later used the crystal to defeat a Fireworm by putting it in the creature's maw during his next deployment on a lava planet, which Sentinel guessed could either be the planets Senna or Mustafar. Imara Vex,[1] another competitor of the show,[4] later came to the interview and told the fans that Sentinel's stories were untrue.[1]

A permafrost crystal in Star Wars Legends
The Permafrost crystal was introduced in the current Star Wars canon via a mention in the video game Star Wars: Hunters, which was developed by NaturalMotion's BossAlien[4] and initially published by Zynga on November 16, 2021, as a soft launch[5] before the global release on June 4, 2024.[6] The game was later taken offline on October 1, 2025.[7] The mention of the crystal was included in a quote as part of the "Sentinel Mastery II" questline.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the permafrost crystal first appeared in Sony Online Entertainment's 2003 massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars Galaxies.[8]
