"The ghosts—they're closing in on us! I can't stop 'em, commander! I can't—"
"Pax! Fall in—that's an order!"
―Pax and Ponds[5]

Pax was an ARF trooper of the Grand Army of the Republic that was active during the Clone Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Separatist Alliance. In 21 BBY, the clone trooper accompanied Jedi General Mace Windu's Lightning Squadron on a mission to the planet Ridlay. During the mission, the group encountered a subterranean species, which the locals referred to as "ghosts," and Separatist leader Count Dooku. While fighting Dooku's B1-series battle droids, Pax was thrown to their death down the Ascension Well by the subterranean species.

Lighting Squadron arrive on Ridlay

A human male clone[3] of bounty hunter Jango Fett,[1] Pax[5] was created on the planet Kamino and trained to be a clone trooper.[1] Pax served in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars as an Advanced Recon Force Scout Trooper in[3] the 91st Mobile Reconnaissance Corps'[6] Lightning Squadron under the command of Clone Commander Ponds and Jedi General Mace Windu.[3]

In 21 BBY,[2] Pax accompanied Windu, Ponds, clone trooper Heater, ARF trooper Razor, and another ARF trooper on a mission to the planet Ridlay to investigate the planet's prolonged lack of communication. Arriving on Ridlay's surface via an LAAT gunship, Lightning Squadron began their search for the planet's inhabitants. They traversed the dark, forested landscape and eventually came across an abandoned village. Ponds then detected movement from the trees, prompting the squadron to form up behind Windu.[3]

An individual named Agon emerged from the tree line shouting that ghosts were coming and that they needed to run. Soon after, multiple creatures arrived and Pax and the rest of Lightning Squadron began firing at them. Upon realizing that the blaster fire was going through the "ghosts," the group fell back and retreated to the shelter where Agon's people where hiding. It was there that the group learned that these "ghosts" came every fifty years during the total eclipse, but they had not been aggressive until then. The squadron traveled to the Ascension Well, a large hole where the "ghosts" arose from, to investigate the cause of their aggression. At the well, three "ghosts" emerged from the depths, to which Pax and the rest of the squadron began shooting at them until Windu told them to hold their fire. As Windu sensed the conflict in the creatures, the cause of their aggression revealed[3] himself[5] to be Separatist leader[7] Count Dooku.[3]

Pax and the other clones began firing at the waves of approaching B1-series battle droids as the "ghosts" started to close in on them. Unable to be stopped by blaster fire, multiple "ghosts" overwhelmed Pax as they began to solidify just enough to disarm and grab the clone. They then threw Pax down the Ascension Well, where the trooper screamed as they fell to their death. Pax's death shook Ponds, causing the commander to yell out. Despite Pax's death, Lightning Squadron managed to defeat Dooku's forces and return the "ghosts" to their peaceful nature.[5]

Personality and traits

As a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, Pax shared Fett's tan skin and height of 1.83 meters (6 ft),[1] and weighed eighty kilograms.[4]

Equipment

Like all other clone troopers, Pax was implanted with a behavioral modification biochip by the Kaminoan scientists to ensure that they would not resist certain orders.[1] Pax wore Phase I ARF armor and wielded a DC-15A blaster carbine.[5]

Behind the scenes

Pax first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the comic story "Separation Anxiety Part One" released in the ninth issue of the 2020 Star Wars Adventures comic series[3] on September 8, 2021.[8] The clone was later named in the comic story "Separation Anxiety, Part Two" released in the following issue[5] on September 29 of the same year.[9] Both comics were written by author Michael Moreci, with Pax's depiction made by penciller Michael Avon-Oeming and published by IDW Publishing.[3][5]
