Osseriton was a penal world located not far into[3] the Unknown Regions[1] in the Osseriton system[2] within grid square G-9 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It shared its name with Osseriton Assemblages, the manufacturer of the Oubliette-class transport,[4] which was originally designed with the singular purpose of ferrying criminals from surrounding star systems to a hard labor camp[3] in the penal colonies of Osseriton,[5] where convicts were sent to be forgotten about while extracting resources from the harsh landscape.[3]
At some point by 4 ABY,[6] the dark side mercenaries known as the Knights of Ren were hired on a no-questions-asked assignment to raid the prison and free its occupants. As there were no specific restrictions in the assignment, the knights also raided the hangars of the prison's security forces and stole one of the prison transports, the Oubliette-class vessel Night Buzzard. The group then modified the starship for personal use, removing any livery of the Osseriton correctional facilities.[3]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, Osseriton was first mentioned in the 2019 reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[4] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Osseriton was first mentioned in Force Heretic II: Refugee, the second novel in the Force Heretic trilogy and sixteenth overall in the Star Wars: The New Jedi Order series. The novel was released in 2003 and written by Sean Williams and Shane Dix.[7]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary establishes that the Knights of Ren acquired the Night Buzzard during a raid on Osseriton. Furthermore, Crimson Reign 1 depicts the Night Buzzard in the possession of the Knights while Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Star Wars: Galactic Atlas establishes that Solo was frozen in carbonite between 3 ABY and 4 ABY, meaning the events of Crimson Reign 1 must take place between those two dates and that the raid on Osseriton must have occured at some point by 4 ABY.
