- "You must be one of the Four Sword Saints, Master Okinaa, The One Who Shatters the Galaxy with Nothing but a Name."
- ―The Ronin, to Okinaa
Okinaa, also referred to as The One Who Shatters the Galaxy with Nothing But a Name, was a Zabrak male Sith Master and one of the Four Sword Saints. While fishing near their village, they recovered the heavily damaged astromech droid R5-D56, who they repaired with the help of other villagers. Ten years later, Okinaa and R5-D56, by then the last remaining members of the village, visited a holy place. There, the former Sith known as the Ronin challenged Okinaa to a duel, which resulted in Okinaa's death.
Biography
Village life
- "Hiya. Okinaa-san has looked good since you came, Boy."
- ―A Sullustan villager, to R5-D56
Okinaa repaired R5-D56 with the help of the other villagers.
Okinaa was a Sith Master and one of the Four Sword Saints who lived in a village on a planet, where they were called Okinaa-san. At some point, Okinaa was fishing near their village when they recovered the badly damaged astromech droid[1] R5-D56,[2] who they referred to as "Boy." Okinaa returned to their village with R5-D56, who they repaired with the help of the other villagers. Afterward, they celebrated, and R5-D56 became the companion of Okinaa. On one occasion, when R5-D56 was running an errand with Okinaa, a Sullustan villager remarked that Okinaa looked better since the droid arrived in the village. R5-D56 then requested a new leg while the villagers joked with Okinaa, who remained silent. Okinaa and R5-D56 often spent time together, and went fishing and watched fireworks together. Over time, many of the villagers died until only Okinaa and R5-D56 remained.[1]
Ten years later, Okinaa and R5-D56 visited a holy place, which was located on the top of a cliff and decorated with several small rock piles, statues, and other objects, to honor the villagers who had died. There, they laid flowers and lit candles before sitting in front of the arrangement. Okinaa mentioned to R5-D56 that the pollution in the area was getting worse and requested that he give them a proper send-off with the others after they died, which they believed would happen soon. In response, R5-D56 once again asked Okinaa to make him a leg. Okinaa then told R5-D56 about a strange dream they had had the previous night, in which R5-D56 had a new leg and happily traveled the galaxy with a young ronin.[1]
Duel with the Ronin
- "I would like to challenge you to a duel."
- ―The Ronin, facing Okinaa
Okinaa duels the Ronin.
Okinaa was then approached by[1] the former Sith[2] known as the Ronin, who referred to Okinaa as "The One Who Shatters the Galaxy with Nothing but a Name" and mentioned that they were one of the Four Sword Saints. The Ronin then challenged Okinaa to a duel, but Okinaa refused, as they believed one of them would die. However, when the Ronin removed his mask, Okinaa recognized him from their dream and, accepting their fate, agreed to the duel and told R5-D56 to ask the Ronin for help if something happened to them.[1]
Okinaa ordered R5-D56 to witness their duel and suggested to the Ronin that they fight elsewhere, as they were in a holy place. The Ronin refused Okinaa's suggestion and attacked, beginning the duel. In response, Okinaa leaped down the side of the cliff, moving the duel away from the holy place. As the Ronin pursued them, Okinaa taunted the Ronin, refusing to draw their lightsaber. Eventually, the Ronin forced Okinaa to ignite their lightsaber, and the two exchanged several blows before Okinaa leapt to a tree in the middle of a nearby body of water and again taunted the Ronin, who had waded into the water. Okinaa then jumped down to attack the Ronin, who landed a fatal strike that split Okinaa's mask.[1]
Legacy
- "This is how…a Sith living by the way of the sword…ends…Never…Forget this…Stay well…Boy."
- ―Okinaa
Before dying, Okinaa warned the Ronin that their fate was the fate of Sith, and said a farewell to R5-D56. As the Ronin dragged Okinaa's body out of the water, a distressed R5-D56 tapped their body with his arms. At night, the Ronin lit a fire to burn Okinaa's body. After putting on Okinaa's hat and waving goodbye to their body, R5-D56 accepted the Ronin's offer to come with him,[1] and the two traveled away together.[3]
The flames of Okinaa's funeral pyre were witnessed from a distance by a protocol droid and an astromech droid who were searching for Okinaa's village.[1]
