"Do you really think there's a village this way?"
"Popopi"
"What? You don't know?"
―The CZ protocol droid and the R4 astromech[1]

An R4 astromech droid, along with a CZ protocol droid, searched for a village on a planet. During their search, the astromech droid admitted it did not know if they were headed toward a village, and the two droids began arguing. At night, the two droids saw a distant fire that the former Sith known as the Ronin had set to burn the body of the Sith Okinaa, the last member of the village. The protocol droid realized they were on the same path they had been on previously, and the two droids continued arguing.

The astromech droid with the protocol droid

An R4 astromech droid accompanied a CZ protocol droid as the pair searched for a village on the sandy dunes of a planet. As they walked past the skeleton of a creature, the protocol droid complained to its companion about their conditions, believing their situation would continue for the rest of their lives. It asked if the astromech droid was certain a village was located in the direction they were headed. The astromech responded in binary that it did not know, and the two droids began arguing.[1]

At night, the two droids saw a distant fire, which[1] the former Sith[2] known as the Ronin had started to burn the body of the Sith Okinaa, the last surviving member of the village, who he had killed in a duel. The protocol droid told the astromech that it wished it had not come with it, then realized they were on the same path they had been on earlier. The astromech insulted the protocol droid, and the two began arguing again.[1]

Characteristics

"Piko piko buuu"
"What? You're the fool, you screwball!"
―The R4 astromech and the CZ protocol droid[1]

The R4 astromech droid had a light green sensor. The top of its dome, as well as two vertical stripes on its dome and a horizontal stripe on its body, were darker in color than the rest of its plating. The astromech insulted the protocol droid and argued with it during their search. It communicated using binary.[1]

Equipment

The R-series droid wore chest plates strapped to the front and back of its body. It had a cloth tied around the base of its dome and another at the bottom of its body, the latter of which was used to strap a roughly rectangular object to it. A second object that was similar in shape and lighter in color was strapped to the armor on its back.[1]

Behind the scenes

The R4 astromech droid appeared in the non-canon comic Visions – Takashi Okazaki 1, written and illustrated by Takashi Okazaki and published by Marvel Comics[1] on March 20, 2024.[3]
