A night-flower,[1] also know as night flowers,[2] were a type of flower that could close itself at dawn.[1] They could be found in a forest on the planet Siline.[2] The Lucem former Jedi Padawan Ruu began to close himself up in order to deal with the grief of the death of his Jedi Master, Conithr,[1] between 230 BBY and 229 BBY.[3]
In 229 BBY,[3] after destroying a Nihil pirates' factory on the Core Worlds planet Corellia, Ruu mentally reflected on how much harder it had become to let the comforting numbness of the Force envelop him. He likened his emotional withdrawal to a night-flower closing at dawn—a once-familiar act that now felt increasingly difficult.[1] In 134 BBY,[4] while in a forest on Siline, the human Jedi Padawan Yord Fandar smelled night flowers which he considered sweet.[2]
Behind the scenes
A night-flower was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in "Rogue Element," a short story written by Alyssa Wong[1] that was published in the Barnes & Noble exclusive edition[5] of the 2023 young-adult anthology The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project.[1] The 2025 young-adult novel The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown, which was written by Tessa Gratton, spelled the flower's name as "night flower."[2] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, a night-flower was mentioned in "Hondo Ohnaka's Not-So-Big Score," a short story written by Jason Fry that was published in the 144th issue of the Star Wars Insider magazine by Titan Magazines[6] on September 3, 2013.[7]

- ↑ 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 2.5 The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 The events of "Rogue Element" take place one year after the destruction of Starlight Beacon, which Star Wars: The High Republic Character Encyclopedia dates to 230 BBY. The story establishes Conithr died between the destruction of Starlight Beacon and the story's events, therefore meaning she passed away between those two years.
- ↑ The events of The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown take place in 134 BBY per the following reasoning. The Acolyte: The Crystal Crown establishes that Jecki Lon is the Padawan of Sol and Yord Fandar has yet to undertake his Jedi Trials. The novel also states that Lon has been Sol's Padawan for at least two years, as well as that Sol had not taken a Padawan for years after his former Padawan, Verosha Aniseya, left the Jedi Order. From this, at least four years have passed since Aniseya left the Order. "Lost / Found"—the events of which take place in 132 BBY per the reasoning here—establishes Aniseya left the Order six years before its events, equating to 138 BBY. The episode further states Fandar passed his Jedi Trials two years before its events, meaning he must have passed his Trials in 134 BBY.
