The Merr-Sonn Model 57 was a weapon similar in appearance to the BlasTech DL-44 heavy blaster pistol.[2]
The Rebel Alliance purchased a number of these weapons from an arms dealer on Ord Mantell. One of them came into the ownership of Luke Skywalker, who used it alongside his lightsaber.[1] He started carrying the pistol a short time after the Battle of Yavin.[3][2]
Behind the scenes
The pistol was first seen being carried by Luke in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and promotional images for the film. Star Wars: Behind the Magic misidentified Luke's Model 57 blaster in The Empire Strikes Back as a Power 5 heavy blaster pistol.[4]
The film prop was a German Mauser C96 semi-automatic pistol detailed with the plastic model kit parts of a V8 engine and a 1942 military sighting telescope.[2] The same model of pistol was also the basis of the DL-44 heavy blaster pistol and Power 5 heavy blaster pistol props from the original film trilogy.
