The Model 57 was a blaster manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc. to compete with BlasTech Industries's DL-44 heavy blaster pistol. It succeeded on the market and became known as a legal, low-power alternative to the DL-44.[1]

The Model 57 first appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity as the Model 57 in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, and was first identified by the Star Wars Customizable Card Game Cloud City Limited expansion, which was released in November 1997.[2] The Model 57 was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Altaya's "Blasters and Ranged Weapons" reference book, released exclusively in France on February 23, 2021.[1]
