During Minecraft Live on October 15, 2023, it was announced that Minecraft would be getting a paid Star Wars-themed downloadable content titled, Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi,[2] which had been in development for the greater part of the year by Spark Universe.[4] Following its announcement, the downloadable content was then released on November 7, 2023, through Minecraft's community marketplace.[2] To celebrate the release of Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, Minecraft themed its Marketplace button on the main menu after the downloadable content for a limited time.[5] After the initial release of the downloadable content, Spark Universe added additional updates to it for accessibility and quality of life improvements.[6]

Release and reception

"Working on this DLC has been a passion project for a number of people on our team who have been Star Wars fans for years. Each block was placed with care, and every word intentionally scripted with support from the Lucasfilm team to ensure accuracy to the universe, and we're so proud of the attention to detail we were able to offer to this project."
―Spark Universe[6]

Two weeks following the release of Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi, on November 21, 2023, it was announced by Spark Universe that the Star Wars-themed downloadable content had become one of the most successful launches on the Minecraft Marketplace for the year.[6]

Continuity

According to[7] Senior Star Wars Lore Advisor Leland Chee,[8] the events and subjects shown in Minecraft Star Wars: Path of the Jedi are placed under the same canonicity tier as LEGO media within the Holocron continuity database, marking it as non-canon, though could still be open to canon if any author in the future takes an interest to do so.[7]

Holocron entries related to gameplay, a crafting station for example, I classify as "Non-Fiction" for lack of better terminology, which is no different than a workbench in say, Jedi Fallen Order. Might we see Torren placed on a galaxy map someday? Maybe, if someone puts it on Jason Fry's radar. Would it be canonically cube-shaped? Hopefully not. Would we see Larno Ruhuk, Thelo Jarn, and Quilo Zanx appear in other content someday? Who knows. Really depends on if there's a Star Wars creator who has an attachment to that material or if there's a compelling storytelling need for a named Anx Jedi." (message link) (screenshot)
