- "You are being indulgent, my lord."
- ―Masamu, to Hanrai
Masamu was a personal aide to the Jedi lord Hanrai in his clan on the astronomical object Watoru. During the period following the disappearance of Jedi master Numoda in the Engai system, Masamu was present outside of Hanrai's study when the Twi'lek Jedi apprentice Yuehiro was brought to speak with his lord. He later reported on political matters, including the demands of the Emperor's sons regarding Hanrai's allegiance in the anticipated succession conflict.
Biography
- "The princes each demand a response, my lord. If I may, I do not think they will permit you to remain neutral much longer. Each fears that if you ally with his brother, he is in danger of losing the loyalty of his Jedi."
- ―Masamu, to Hanrai
Masamu served as the personal aide to Jedi lord Hanrai within his clan on the astronomical object Watoru. After Master Numoda went missing in the Engai system, Masamu stood outside the door of Hanrai's study after Hanrai's clan member and Twi'lek Jedi apprentice Yuehiro had been brought to speak with Hanrai. Yuehiro had snuck into Hanrai's private library after curfew to learn more about the circumstances of Numoda's disappearance, as well as details regarding the Sith rebellion, but he was discovered and brought to Hanrai. The Jedi lord decided to hand the boy a seal to allow him proper entry to the library before curfew.[1]
After the Twi'lek left, Masamu sat across the study's desk and questioned his lord's indulgence toward the boy, as he could have instead been spending the time reading missives or directing political actions. The Jedi lord regarded it as a precaution to understand not only when Yuehiro might look, but also which of Hanrai's records would be accessed. Masamu then informed the master that the Emperor's sons, the Crown Prince and Second Prince, both demanded Hanrai's allegiance to their own side in the anticipated future war between the princes for the throne.[1]
According to Masamu, the princes feared that if Hanrai broke his neutrality and chose one prince, the other would lose the loyalty of his Jedi. Hanrai, who thought of the idea of Jedi turning on their masters preposterous, began to ask Masamu to tell them he would remain neutral, but as Hanrai received a message on his datapad, he instead told Masamu to let the princes know he would be away for a while and maybe have an answer for them upon his return. When Masamu asked him what to say if asked where the lord had gone, Hanrai mentioned the Outer Rim planet Dekien, hoping to make the princes think he was going on a vacation as a form of sending them a symbolic message.[1]
Personality and traits
Masamu questioned Hanrai's leniency toward Yuehiro, noting that the lord's time could have been spent on matters of state such as missives or political action. He also conveyed the demands of the Emperor's sons to Hanrai, acting as an intermediary and showing a certain degree of political savvy in his interactions with the Jedi lord.[1]
