Maintenance droids, also known as repair droids, were typically class two and class five droids that performed simple to complex cleaning, repair, and general maintenance tasks such as repairing fellow droids. A pit droid was a type of repair droid that maintained podracer vehicles.[2] The MN-2E general maintenance droid,[3] T3-series utility droid, BLX labor droid, WED Treadwell repair droid, the MSE-series droid, and astromech droids such as the R-series were used as repair droids.[4]

R2-D2 was an astromech droid aboard a Naboo star cruiser, was rewarded for emergency maintenance on the ship's deflector shields, and was the only repair droid to survive the task.[5]
