"Used to hang out with that mouthy tactical droid. What was his name?"
Han Solo on the L-1 tactical droid SV-3[11]

The L-1g general purpose droid,[12] also known as the L-1 general purpose droid,[13] L-1 general service droid,[1] or L-1g worker droid,[3] was a model of service droid commonly used for basic operational tasks. The droid was equipped with an AA-1 VerboBrain processor on par with that of a high-end protocol droid[1] and versatile language processors. Due to its capacity to calculate complex scenarios, some referred to the model as the L-1 tactical droid.[2] However, few bothered to use the L-1 unit to its full potential.[1]

In the year 14 BBY,[14] the Scrapper Guild used L-1g units painted in blue with red stripes as foremen on the planet Bracca.[8] One year later[14] in Coronet City on the planet Corellia, units painted yellow with blue stripes were employed on shipyards for various menial tasks,[13] including disassembling hydro transfer conduit to clear a minnow blockage.[12] In 10 BBY,[14] the Pyke Syndicate forced multiple L-1g droids like GM12-L1 and MK5-L1 to work in the Spice mines of Kessel.[12] In 5 BBY, a L-1g droid stood in front of a shop on Ferrix.[15] SV-3 was a L-1 tactical droid that worked with the Barbadelan Karamu[11] and K-OHN was a manumitted L-1 tactical droid that worked in Jedha City[2] shortly before it's destruction[6] in 1 BBY.[14]

Behind the scenes

The L-1g general purpose droid first appeared, albeit unidentified, in the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story[6] and was first identified in the accompanying reference book Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide[2] and was performed by actor and creature performer Dee Tails.[16] While the book identified the model as the L-1 tactical droid,[2] the 2018 reference book Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide identified it as the L-1g general purpose droid.[12] The reference book Star Wars: Droidography released later that year, then clarified that while some referred to the L-1g as a tactical droid due to its capacity to calculate complex scenarios, it was actually a model of service droid.[1]
