"I'm a bartender on Koda Station. I'm a rebel by definition."
―Demms Ryx, to Arvel Crynyd[5]

Koda Station was a space station in the Outer Rim Territories' Koda system that included the tavern The End of the World. Around 1 ABY, Arvel Crynyd, a flight instructor for the Rebel Alliance, met a representative of the Virgillian Free Alignment resistance movement at the tavern, receiving news of the death of one of his students. After Crynyd stormed out, the bartender Demms Ryx went to comfort the instructor and the two had a drink together. When Crynyd came again, he met with Ryx, with the bartender leaving Koda Station to join Crynyd and the rebels at their spacedock.

Description

Koda Station was a space station[6] located in the Koda system[3] in the Western Reaches portion[2] of the Outer Rim Territories. Situated in the Wazta sector in the grid square I-18 of the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] it was the end point of the Koda Spur hyperspace route,[4] which connected it to the Urn-Aram system and eventually[3] the planet[7] Lutrillia.[3]

History

"You make a difference. I serve drinks. I want to do more."
―Demms Ryx, to Arvel Crynyd, on leaving Koda Station[5]

During the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, the Volpai Demms Ryx worked as one of the bartenders at The End of the World tavern on Koda Station.[5] Around 1 ABY,[8] Arvel Crynyd, a flight instructor who taught rebel pilots, was called over to Koda Station by Dagger, a representative of the Virgillian Free Alignment resistance movement, to get a message from one of the pilots he was teaching. The two met at The End of the World, where Dagger passed on news that one of his students, Raf, had died, offering Crynyd a burned piece of the late pilot's starfighter and the representative's sympathies. Crynyd stormed out of the tavern, a concerned Ryx following after to check on him and offer him a drink. After Ryx politely sent Dagger away, the Volpai had another bartender cover his shift and sat with the flight instructor, the pair speaking about hyperspace and Crynyd's beliefs.[5]

The flight instructor Arvel Crynyd visited Koda Station multiple times.

Later, the rebel pilot Pieter brought Crynyd to Koda Station to negotiate a shipment of salvaged parts for RZ-1 A-wing interceptors, the starfighter model flown by Pieter, the late Raf, and other students of Crynyd. Ryx, having waited for Crynyd's return, met him for a drink. Crynyd returned to the spacedock where he taught the pilots afterwards, and Demms left Koda Station with his belongings, hitching a ride to the spacedock to join Crynyd and help the rebels. The two went on to become a couple and made a home together on[5] the planet[7] Cerea with their daughter Starr, in tandem with Crynyd's growing career in the rebellion.[5]

Koda Station was mistakenly labeled as a planet on a galactic map included in the book Traveler's Guide to Batuu, which was written by the historian Eloc Throno[7] in 34 ABY.[9] That same year,[10] a number of screens on Chandrila Star Line's Star Cruiser Halcyon showed a partial map of the galaxy that indicated Koda Station's position.[11]

Behind the scenes

Koda Station's name was first brought into canon by Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game.

Koda Station's name was first brought into canon by Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game.

Koda Station was introduced in the current Star Wars canon via an unlabeled depiction on a galactic map included in the January 29, 2016 StarWars.com article "Where in the Galaxy Are the Worlds of Star Wars: The Force Awakens?" by Mark Newbold.[12] The map included in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game,[13] an August 4, 2016[14] Star Wars Roleplaying boxed set published by Fantasy Flight Games, later introduced the station's name.[13] The first in-universe appearance of Koda Station came via depiction on a map viewable in Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, an immersive roleplaying experience at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida[11] that was first opened to the public on March 1, 2022.[15] The space station was originally introduced as Koda Space Station in the 1997 Star Wars Legends continuity novel Galaxy of Fear: The Brain Spiders, the seventh installment in the Star Wars: Galaxy of Fear series written by John Whitman.[16]

In Cole Horton's 2020 reference book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu, Koda Station was established as a planet.[7] Meanwhile, the Galaxy Map[17] designed by Christopher Ibbitt[18]—created for the reference book Star Wars: Timelines and given out as a promotional poster at Celebration Anaheim[19] on May 27, 2022[20] prior to the book's release during Celebration Europe[21] of April 7 through 10, 2023[22]—labels it as a space station.[17] This labelling was also used by a galactic map[23] designed also by Ibbitt[18] and written by Jason Fry[24] in the March 6, 2025[25] reference book Star Wars: Complete Locations, New Edition,[23] as well as Ibbitt's Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com,[6] authored by Fry and released on June 24 of that same year.[26] This article considers the information from the three more recent sources to be the factual information.

Same galaxy, same map. In the rare event something needs to be changed, it will be discussed. (In response to: Hi @jasoncfry.bsky.social, was hoping you could confirm for Wookieepedia purposes that the hyperspace routes depicted on the Galaxy Map given out at Celebration are intended to be the same routes as in Legends. Sorry to bother, but would make our lives much easier to have it confirmed!)" (screenshot).

  9. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: Traveler's Guide to Batuu establishes that at the time of the book's setting the Resistance was based on Batuu.
