The Itopol sector was a sector of the Expansion Region that contained the Azum system, the Carburo system, the Gibraal system, and the Llon Nebulae.[1] The Azum system[1] fell within the Trailing Sectors[2] and was the home of the Azumel species.[3][4]
Behind the scenes
In the current Star Wars canon, the Itopol sector was mentioned in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published alongside the Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both were written by Jason Fry.[5] The sector originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared in "Storm Fleet Warnings," a short story written by Jude Watson and published in the Star Wars: Short Story Collection in 2003.[6] It was then identified as the Itopol sector for the first time in the StarWars.com Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Fry.[7]

(backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. This article treats Azum as one such homeworld with regard to the Azumel species.
