- "Your opponent is IG-88…a Holowan Laboratories Phlutdroid armed with pulse cannons, concussion discs, vibroblades and a DAS-430 Neural Inhibitor."
- ―Gak-Sixtoo, to Ochi
Holowan Laboratories was a division of Holowan that manufactured droids during the Clone Wars and the Imperial Era.
History
Following the Clone Wars' resolution, before which the destructive galaxy-wide conflict fought between the forces of the Galactic Republic and Confederacy of Independent Systems was partly fueled by their droid and arms products,[4] Holowan Laboratories was able to bypass the Galactic Empire's ban on the production of battle droids by reclassifying their products as security droids.[6] The company also took on Project Phlutdroid.[2]
Products
Holowan Laboratories developed and manufactured the IG-series of droids active during the Clone Wars,[4] including the IG-100 MagnaGuard—fielded by the Separatist Droid Army[7]—the IG-86 sentinel droid, and the IG-RM bodyguard and enforcer droid[3] In addition, Holowan Laboratories manufactured the rogue assassin droid IG-88, who operated as a bounty hunter during the Galactic Civil War waged between the reigning Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic.[4]
Behind the scenes
Holowan Laboratories was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in Star Wars Rebels: The Visual Guide, a reference book written by Adam Bray[3] and released on July 21, 2014.[8] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the company first appeared in the 1996 short story "Therefore I Am: The Tale of IG-88," written by Kevin J. Anderson and released in the Tales of the Bounty Hunters anthology.[9] Holowan Laboratories was incorrectly identified as "Halowan Laboratories" in the young readers book Star Wars Rebels: Head to Head, written by Pablo Hidalgo[6] and released on August 26, 2014.[10]
