This article is about the world Groth. You may be looking for the individual Gunner Groth.

Groth was a terrestrial world[2] located in the Groth system, a part of the Bootana Hutta area in the Hutt Space portion of the Slice. Hyperlanes linked it to the Kor Desilijic, Kor Gejalli, and Saki system. At one point, Groth served as a throneworld of one of the clans of the Hutt species, but eventually it became a resort[1] where Hutts spent their time gambling and watching gladiatorial fights.[2]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

Around 3643 BBY,[3] an information broker who was based on Groth and employed multiple security traps sliced into a military database and stole classified data. Subsequently, an individual associated with one of the two sides in the ongoing struggle between the Galactic Republic and the reconstituted Sith Empire sent a companion to Groth to both wipe the data and confiscate the client list of the information broker. The companion went on to maneuver the slicer into one of his own traps and thereby captured both him and the list.[4]

Behind the scenes

Groth was first mentioned in The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book co-authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry, which placed it in grid square S-11.[1] The world was mentioned in a Slicing Crew Skill mission of the 2011 BioWare video game, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The mission was initially only available to Sith Empire–aligned players, though both this restriction and the information about the mission's outcome are no longer part of the game.[4]

  3. Per the reasoning here, Act I of Star Wars: The Old Republic takes place around 3643 BBY. Since players of The Old Republic can assign their companions on the mission "Slice the Slicer" independently of the main class storyline at any point during the game, the mission must take place at some point around 3643 BBY.
