The Ghonoath system was an Inner Rim Territories star system with one highly radioactive deathworld. The Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing stopped there in 5 ABY to refuel a Raider-class corvette, but was soon followed by the New Republic refitted Star Destroyer Deliverance and its starfighter wing. Both forces fought at the deathworld, each sustaining casualties before the 204th made its escape.

Description

A star system, the Ghonoath system was located in the Croynar sector[1] within the Trailing Sectors portion[2] of the Inner Rim Territories. Situated at the coordinates M-14 on the Standard Galactic Grid,[1] it contained a highly radioactive deathworld.[3]

History

In 5 ABY,[4] the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing traveled to the Gonoath system after suffering several attacks from the New Republic refitted Star Destroyer Deliverance and its starfighter wing, which was following communication signal bursts from the 204th's bulk freighter Yadeez. The Imperial fighter wing stopped and refuel one of its two Raider-class corvettes, but were soon burdened when the Deliverance arrived with its wing. The Yadeez and its other escorts flew down into the radioactive deathworld's atmosphere to distract the New Republic forces and hamper them, buying time for the refueling corvette.[3]

The 204th's TIE/sa bombers used proton bombs and the deathworld's winds to destroy two X-wing starfighters. One of the 204th pilots, Garl Lykan, was also killed after the failure of his port stabilizer left him open to be picked off by three X-wings. The Yadeez soon recalled the 204th's TIEs and skipped across the deathworld's atmosphere with its escorts, causing significant turbulence. The fighter wing escaped into hyperspace. The Deliverance continued to pursue the 204th to the G'Tep'Noi system and Chadawa system after.[3]

Behind the scenes

The Ghonoath system appeared in the 2021 novel Victory's Price: An Alphabet Squadron Novel, written by Alexander Freed.[3]
